I Need help with HP Pavillion f1703 LCD monitor

Can anyone help me? Does anyone have experience with defective HP monitors? I have one that went dark and the power on light would not even turn to the on position. I was able to use my multimiter to check the power connections and the AC adapter and those are working accordingly. From what I can read this may be a problem related to either a defective inverter, lamp, or controller board but I don't know for certain. Also, I would like to know if anyone has experience opening and repairing these kinds of problems and if it's possible to share that with me. Thanks

Neasuring with a multimeter will not show up ripple on the supply rails, well it may on AC setting but you need to know what is a good reading to know if yours has high ripple.

The F1703 was built with more than one chassis, but the inverter may have short circuit transistors stopping the internal supplies from turning on.

Hi. Did you ever have any luck getting your monitor going? Did you figure out how to open it up? Were all the plug-in connections tight? Are there any obvious signs of failure (heat). Sorry but I just found this forum and have just been working on the same monitor. I bought another one for spare parts and managed to get one working.

Hello there,
Thanks for the reply; it's been a while. And no, I did not have any luck trying to solve this at the time; I tried to look for spare parts and so forth online but could not find any. What I ended up doing is going back to the HP website to look for any documentation pertaining monitors and found that this was a common failure for monitors of certain serial number (CNC) and revision number that were manufactured between October 2003 and June 2004. My monitor falls into this criteria so I'm sending it to HP for repairs free of charge. Since I do not know much about monitors or repairing them, this seem like a pretty good option to go with. Thanks again! Gerson

Base on this monitor, if you have no display or dim display. It was not a major problems. All you need is to resolder the two coils locate at the inverter board.

Hi, Elson. Have you repaired one of these units where the problem is no power to the on/off switch or so it seems since nothing, not even the LED at the power button, comes on? Would you happen to have access to a schematic for this unit that you could make available. Both my boards look okay except for some very slight discoloration at the inductor that's located straight in from the line in connecion. The capacitors all check good
