HI all!
I have a Compaq S720 17" monitor that the powerswitch just broke (it wont switch on)
I can feel it almost catching, but not quite. I have had the same problem with other powerswitches on other monitors.
I think its just a matter of replacing it (Or hardwire it on..)

But i cant get the shell opened.

I have found two screws on the bottom/front of the monitor, and two cutouts on the top of the front bezel, but i cant separate the thing at all.

How do i "crack this baby" open? (Aside from bringing a hammer hard down on it..)

I have opened a couple of those, though it was a while ago. I don't have that exact model here anymore for reference either. Just a 710, and 7550.

You should be able to see some tab slots on the top of the monitor along the seam. I just popped one of our 710s open and I have seen some other Compaq models like these that open up similarly.

It helps if you have any other screws or tabs removed/undone, so you can start separating the case for leverage, saving the top two tabs as the last to be undone.

The hole portion of the clip is connected to the front of the case and the clib nub is on the back of the case (on the models I've seen). Use a thin regular screwdriver or blade that can push the tab down far enough to separate the hole in the tab from the protruding clip. The clip is reversed hinged (you'll see when you get it off).

You will need another regular screwdriver to help pry from the side you are working on as you separate the front and back sections while pushing down on each the clip.

Good luck with it.
