I have a number of 15" TFT monitor manufactured by a company called Sinai
model name s5a1-cw2.

The display is showing a good picture but in black and white.
The on screen display (OSD) set up screen appears in normal color
- it is only the images coming from the computer that are in monochrome.
The problem seems to be on the main controller board - when I swapped this
board for one from a working monitor the screen screen worked OK with
normal color.

Another problem with the faulty monitor is that the DDC data lines on the
vga connector do not appear to be communicating with the graphics card. With
an identical working monitor a utility to detect the monitor type reports the monitor
as "Sampo LCD MONITOR (14.9"vis, May 2004)". On the faulty monitor the
utility says no DDC monitor detected.

The monitors seem to have the fault from new - all have exactly the same
problem.

Any advice on this fault - even on a different make of TFT monitor would
be appreciated.

Check the DDC lines for shorts also compare readings with a good and bad board.
