I have a problem with my monitor,a Princeton graphics 19"model vl1918,Man date 2-2006,everything was working fine when low and behold,a month after my 1 yr warranty expires,I power up the monitor when turning on cpu,The monitor flashes light on screen for about3/4 of a second, and then goes totally black!when pressing power button on,it does the same sequence, power light steady green, and no faint video on the screen,I know electronics to an extent, but this has me stumped, and due to the money invested in this unit,I don't want to risk trashing it if it can be repaired,I researched some sites but never got any clear solution regarding this problem,Is this some type of short,or should i just throw it in the crapper?I am trying to find out if this is worth saving.anyone with advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

I have 3 vl1918 moniors that are doing the same thing. I just cracked open one of them and noticed that a few of the caps were starting to buldge at the top on the power supply. My guess is that the transistor that drives the supply is malfunctioning and tripping its safety. I have to wait till I go back to work to figure it out cause my multimeter is there. I'll let you know what I find. Don't pitch it yet

Help for Princeton LCD backlight problem

FYI, One other thing to check for is the power being supplied to the inverter board. I had another make of LCD that had a bad cap on the main board in the power supply section. This caused the inverter supply voltage to be low and make it shutdown after 5 or 20 seconds just like when there is a bad CCFL.

Well the backlight inveter was bad. It is integrated on the power board. I fixed all the monitors by getting some .2w pirahna leds and making the backlghts. I used a pwm driver so they can be dimmed and won't pop on me. I just stole voltage off the board so that I didn't have to have a second power supply. If you unplug your backlights, the monitor should stay powered up. This will tell you if you have the same issue as mine.
The other option you have is to get a cold cathode inverter for a case mod and seeing if it will run the backlights you all ready have, I saw that some people got it to work. and its like 5 bucks. I think you would need two double output inverters cause there are four backlights. The other thing with this repair is you have to change the ends on the existing backlights to make them fit. I went the led route cause I didn't want to mess with the cold cathode anymore.

are the backlights feed by the 4 hv ac connectors on the back of hte board. Can I just disconnect them or do you realaly need the backlight. Everyone seems to sell a kit to fix this - what is in it? new capacitor?
