Iiyama MM904UT (VM pro 455) - odd fault

Hi,

I have two problems on this monitor which quite oddly happened to my previous 17" Pro.

1) Currently it's starting to tear intermittently or flashes of noise flicker about mid way on the screen. It lasts a few milliseconds but is annoying. It can happen every few seconds or between that and 20 to 30 seconds and then stop for a while. IOW quite intermittent at the moment but .. history shows this will get worse.

2) I had this problem on my 17" monitor which I ditched and bought the 19" new from a company only about 15 months ago, only to find that it was still present although less severe:

The problem is that items on the left third of the screen are wider than items on the right two thirds. It's not really bad but for instance if I have a window 3" in width on the left and drag it to the right the width shrinks. The shrinkage is roughly equivalent to the size of a scroll bar.

I had this much worse on my 17" but it was getting old and I didn't do anything about it once I noticed it for that reason. Eventually it began tearing as described above and got worse and worse till it was too annoying and I just knew it was going to die sooner or later.

The first thing I did when I got the new one was to check this problem. It still existed but wasn't as bad so I figured it's the graphic card. Computer is long in the tooth so wait till I upgrade, which I finally did last week only to find that the problem was still there!

A burning question then is whether I'm seeing

a) a typical Iiyama problem
b) The graphic card is causing it but results in damage to the monitor
c) Is the stretching problem gravitating to the flickering fault related? (I have a feeling it is but I have no logic other than two cases repeating themselves on two entirely different montiors)
d) some other strange anomaly

(note: there are no strong magnetic fields near the monitor or anything that could affect this externally). It's where I parked all previous monitors in the past.

Now that this one is beginning to tear or flicker I'm expecting it to go the same way and get worse. It's bearable, it only started today and the frequency and time it lasts are short.

I hope some of you with experience can throw some light on the situation. I'm not an engineer but I would like to get enough information to decide if it's worth having repaired. I really can't stand the idea of going LCD there's nothing of reasonable cost that will match this monitor.

Any suggestions, pointers, ideas would be most appreciated.

Well the 455 as I suspected went fatal today. After putting my previous message up the tearing had stopped but occasionally the horizontal width would flick in and out about a half inch.

Today it collapsed completely to a bright white vertical line and a smell of burning was present. Needless to say I turned off as soon as the line appeared.

Can someone tell me if this is an economical repair or not?
