The display on this monitor goes dark (backlights turn off) after a second. I have tried replacing the power inverter board with no success. My next step it to replace the back lights, but I wanted to make sure that was a reasonable assumption. The display is perfect for about a second and then it just turns very dark. I thought for sure it had something to do with the inverter board, but apparently it does not.

How did you replace the inverter board. I could not find it anywhere, except at eBay, which were faulty, so I would look at the inverter board again. Try replacing the two MOSFETS 'SP8K3'. They are located behind where the capacitors are mounted, very small with 8 surface mounted legs, and the transformers (there are two). All can be bought at www.digikey.com. We don't have a good electronics parts store locally.
