In the old days before kroil........
it was when the carburetor was so destroyed it was no longer worth it to restore or the value of the carburetor was far surpassed.
Since I could get carburetor cores (4100 and 2100's) for under $10.00 and since I didn't have the patience I do now, I threw many out.......... (everybody shed a small tear) ;o)
Nowdays I don't even mess around, I soak them in Aero-kroil and I have yet to lose one in a long, long time.
I start out by no longer ever restoring a customers carburetor that is frozen, so I will replace it instead, and I tell the customer as much. That takes the time factor right out of the equation. I take the frozen one on trade (deeply discounted) and look for another or use one of my cores.
Then I usually place the frozen one in my core bin after spraying liberally with aero-kroil. Lately I have been trying to empty that bin, so I take the carb out and completely strip the carb the best I can (without breaking anything, Sometimes I have to respray the whole carb severl times. Anything I can't remove I then place into a vat of Aerokroil and I have been willing to soak for as long as two months, but most only need a few days.
Like I say, I have not "lost" one in a long time.
The biggest factor to losing one is the time issue, often we are in to much of a hurry to allow the proper stuff to work.
WITHOUT A DOUBT AEROKROIL IS THE VERY BEST STUFF ON THE MARKET, DON"T BE CHEAP, EVERYTHING ELSE IS A PRETENDER WHEN IT COMES TO THIS STUFF, (And that includes a whole bunch of pretty good products that I also use on a pretty regular basis, just not for this purpose). THATS HOW MUCH I THINK OF AEROKROIL.
GOOD LUCK,
