In the not too distant past, I did a rebuild/restore of an Autolite 4100 1.12 C4AF-9510-DG Carburetor.

In all the research, and advise from everyone who so graciously helped out, it was concluded that the Dashpot was to keep an automatic transmission from stalling IF the gas pedal was quickly released.
I have chosen to leave it off the the above mentioned Autolite because I too have a three-speed, w/OD.
It comes under the heading of "Wouldn't hurt/Wouldn't help".
