Nope a carb spacer will not solve many of your problems, the real problems in 1974 up through 79 when the VV carbs were out the manifold had two, three and up to four vacuum accesses in the manifold, far away from the carburetor. And those vacuum ports basically ran the carb and in some cases the distributor.
