Lee, Your observations about my engine rebuild are valid. I installed a slightly more aggressive cam. It’s ground for low-end torque. Duration at .006” is 255 (int) and 265 (exh). Stock for this engine is 270. Lift is .469 (int) and .495 (exh) vs. stock .401. An increase in valve overlap will reduce idle vacuum. My new cam has 68 deg vs. 44 deg stock. I’m sure this is a contributor.
Your thoughts about ring seating are interesting. Maybe I should just put some miles on the car and see what happens.
I agree about today’s crappy gas. I made a few engine mods to compensate. I dropped compression ratio from 10.1 to 9.5 and had hardened valve seats and stainless exhaust valves installed. I read that using 2-sizes larger main jets would help too. If you or anyone else has a recommendation on jet sizes, I would be interested. FYI, this is the original engine in my ‘64 t-bird.
