We need Bill to show up and weigh in on this one, but here is all I know.

The 4180 is loosely based upon the 4160, but with some modifications for emissions and fuel economy. These include adjustment limiters on the idle screws, two stage power valves, , annular discharge primary booster venturis, and tight tolerance primary jets. They were used on the 5.0 HO engines in '83-'85. I think they can be made to perform with a few modifications.

In my mind, I would think this would be ideally suited for a small block, combining the tuneability and ease of parts availability of a Holley with the efficiency and throttle response of the annular discharge boosters.

Sounds like you got some good info there,
Those 4180's have the reputation of being tricky and hard to tune since they are emission carbs, but FORD used them in all their "hi-po" cars of the mid 80's, again basic variants of the 4150/4160 versions.

They are very common. Don't expect to kit it and sell for a bunch but than anything is possible.

Good Luck,
