It seems to me that running in -20 ambient would require some carb heating. The original Y exhaust crossover, though unusual, gave a good burst of hot air under the manifold until the engine was heated up. Going with headers would decrease that initial heating to some degree. Headers in that situation should definitely be used with an exhaust gasket of the wide open design regarding the crossover port, rather than the restricted.
