I have a 4100 carb and I purchased some Fel-pro 60059 gaskets for it. But the bore holes in the gasket are much larger than the bore holes in the carb. Is this normal or do I need to make custom gaskets for it to fit right? Thank-you for any help.

Mike,
I'm by no means an expert, but recently I bought a rebuild kit and also a couple of extra carb to manifold gaskets gaskets for my Autolite 4100 carb, just to have in case I needed one. The gasket number is 60046 (different than the one you have). I did rebuild the carb and used the 60046 gasket and it fit fine and I've had no problems with it. I honestly don't remember exactly the fit as I installed the gasket, but,to the best of my knowledge, I don't think the gasket openings were larger than the venturi openings. I think I would have noticed that and questioned it, as you did. I can tell you it doesn't look the same as yours, so perhaps the gasket you got is the wrong number.
By the way, the gasket that came with the kit is exactly the same as the 60046 that I bought separately.
Just my opinion; I hope that helps.
Jay

Thank-you for the reply. I have ordered the Fel-Pro #60046 as you have mentioned. I will match it up tomorrow to see how it looks and report back.

Thank-you for the tip on the 60046 gasket jay67fast. I purchased one and I noticed it is labeled as a "high-performance" gasket for the 289 of that era. I was a little concerned about the thickness of it cause it is really thin so I traced that gasket and cut and made my own out of .065" gasket material. I figure it will aid in preventing vaccum leaks if anything. I will be using it on a 1" phenolic carb spacer.

In this picture is the gasket I made. It does fit much much better on the carb bores. I do not understand the function of the design of this gasket and how it lends itself to being "high-performance". Is there anyone who could explain this to me possibly? Just wondering and thank-you if possible.

Also, do I have the gasket installed on the carb in the right direction with the large bore hole in the back?

Thanks again.

Remember this gasket fits all 4100 carbs the 1.08 the 1.12 and even though you will never find one the 1.19

Thank-you Bill White for the response. I thought it just looked really sloppy. Do you think the new pic of the gasket I made albeit smaller but better fitting on the carb bores will benefit in any way or is it comparing apples to apples? Thanks
