i have watched this forum for information on autolite 4100 carburators. now i know you do not like to see 1.12 4100 on small block fords but i have a 1965 cyclone with a built 289 making around 375 hp so i believe a 1.08 to be to small. what i do have in garage is a 4100 with the # C4GF-E stamped in base of carb. this is a 1.12 version that when i look it up says 64 comet and early 65 comet 289 4v 210 / 225hp would this be a proper choice ? i currently have a 1.12 off big block with the # C5SF-B stamped on the base this carb starts and runs ok but has a surge at cruising speed 40-60 mph steady cruise. would the C4GF-E be a better choice ? cam shaft i am running is 224 deg in / 230deg ex duration at .050 its a hyd roller. let me know your thoughts on this.

for a '64 Comet, according to my info. Should be worth swapping that one onto your engine...or selling it for some impressive money. The other carb you mention is from a T-Bird big block.

Ford used the 1.08 carb on the 289-4v (210hp and 225hp rated) but went up to the 1.12 carb for the 289-hipo (271hp rated and fairly accurate on a good day).
If you are making 375hp, even the 1.12 carb would be starving it for air a little bit, but probably only down 5-10hp vs. a 600cfm or 650cfm Holley.
Try all three 4100s, see which one your engine likes.
I've tried at least six 4100s on our 289-4v. Some are slower and you can feel it, a few of them are close, the fastest one on the Gtech is a 1.12, c3af-t carb (c3af-r is almost identical). But this is only at about 230hp.
- if you are making 375hp, with a stick, converter, or steep gears, I bet it will like something bigger than the 1.12 even better.

use the C4 1.12 which is set-up for your application. Even if you run 6500 RPM, with 95% V/E, you only need 516 CFM. Most of the 1.12's flow in the neighborhood of 525 CFM, so your low-end driveability AND top-end power needs will be met. You need to be realistic about HP numbers...325, to maybe 340, is about what you'll get with that cam.

trust me i am realistic on hp # with cnc ported AFR cylinder heads, holman moody high rise intake, custom ground hyd roller camshaft, hooker super competition headers etc.

I say, the hell with those carb formulas, i would even run a 750cfm. Some of the autolite have different emulsion tubes. Don't get me wrong i like the 4100, i got one with a 1.22/1.28 venturi and eelco, mechanical secondarys. Its fun but really needs a second accel pump.

.....or you could use the Summit Racing 600 CFM performance carb that is based on the Holley 4010 which is based on the Ford/Autolite 4100

got the T-bird 1.12 back from pony carbs they installed HIPO boosters just ran on dyno made SAE corrected 382hp i am happy with it pretty stout #s for a .020in 289. i moved primary jetting up 2 #s and backed secondarys down 2 size and A/f was at 13.0 at 6250rpm runs great and has very good driveability to boot.
