Flood situation

1 bbl carb on 200 ci (6 cyl)... 1964? It was transplanted into a 62 Econoline.

I rebuilt carb and runs out just fine. BUT, when you shut it off, gas floods onto the buterfly and eventually seaps out via the throttle shaft and drips onto the intake.

I pulled the top off and LOWERED the float level ... same thing occurs.

I checked the fuel pressure and it's @ six and a half (6 1/2 lbs) - Too Much? It APPEARS to be seaping from between 'the carb and Venturi insert'!

What else am I missing here? Any suggestions?

warped sealing surfaces? My book says 4-6 Psi for the straight 6. Maybe a bad float?

Hello Ed

I warmed it up and as a helper shut it off, I quickly pulled the fuel line - STILL floods. I thought maybe a bad needle/seat. I did this four times and still the same result. It runs onto the butterfly for about 30-40 seconds and then quits. I can't pinpoint where it's coming from exactly ... appears to be running down the side of the venturi very close to the butterfly.

The carb operates fine but makes it difficult to restart because it's flooded. My real concern is the FIRE hazard.

Float - I shook it and no signs of fuel inside. I then pinned it down in a cup of gas ... still no gas inside it.

I don't think this is the correct air/fuel SCREW ... but don't think that could cause this. Or could it?

Any other suggestions?

By the way, The 2 bbl carb (2100) on the Mustang works flawlessly!!
