How much I enjoyed reading your thoughts, Sykochik and nolife. I hope I can express my thoughts as eloquently as you both did.
When I wrote the story I had a particular theme in mind which basically followed the lyrics of Creed's song "With Arms Wide Open". For me, the story was about Mulder embracing his life rather questioning its meaning. Likewise, it was also about Scully coming to terms with her life and the man she chose to spend it with. It was about how these two people, each separate and unique, could create a "work of art"...their child.
Should they have gone back to save the world? Probably...it would have been more in canon with the show, but I really wanted to give these character a second chance...at love and at life. And, quite honestly, I can't think of a better quest than for them both to protect the welfare of their child!
Thank you again for your wonderful thoughts!
Cheers,
