I agree with you that the junos seem kind of american. I think that the juno people need to do something to make the junos distinctively Canadian. I really like watching British awards shows because they are definitely, distinctively British.
That is a really good point about the junos favoring artists who have had American success. Canadians need to stop equating success with making it in the states. Not that everyone thinks that way, but it certainly seems like the juno people do.
I also wanted to say that success doesn't necessarily equal talent. A lot of successful groups out there, especially pop groups and singers, are successful because they are marketable. I think that awards like the junos should be given out based on several different factors, success being just one of them. It seems like sometimes the junos are given out based mainly on success. Because of that, some very talented musicians are overlooked because they haven't been successful on such a large scale as the winner.
