Greetings all, I'm looking at a Starion wide body 2L as a potential purchase, could you guys tell me what they're like day to day?

It's going to be doing around 5K a year and I'm concerned with reliability, common problems, mpg etc......and where do you get new spares?

Thanks

Hi I bought one before christmas and have done lots of homework on the cars. Starions are very reliable as long as you change oil every 6 months and let the car warm up before driving. MPG is not good but reasonable for the power. about 15-20 is normal. check oil pressure before buying! service parts are easy to obtain and this site is REALLY GOOD if you need any parts.

You will be a happy bunny! standard cars are cheaper than most cars of this power. you get a lot of car for your money. back in the days this car was new it was a main rival to the equivelent porsche. get one with a limited slip diff.

just remember any old car will need TLC and a few £'s spent.

Happy motoring.

Malcolm

15mpg? i'd be checking for fuel leaks!! my old starion was tuned to 213bhp and on a run would hit 30mpg almost, round town, depending on how hard i drove 20-25 was normal.

Parts are pretty easy to get, all the service parts are readily available from most motor parts suppliers and in the 2 years i had mine it never let me down once including numerous 3-400mile round trips. Some parts are available from the states, but be careful as they only got the 2.6 and not all parts are interchangeable.

All i can say is check for rust, and go enjoy the boost!!

id definitely say check for rust as some cars which may appear solid are anything but!

as £400 of welding has just taught me!

it was only the very early cars which didnt have lsd's which makes it more likel you will find one with

as i said though,if you can afford it get a mechanic to look over it or the AA before you buy as there are plenty of wrecks out there and plenty of people willing to pass them off as decent ones!

ALL UK STARIONS HAD LSD

January 29 2008, 10:13 PM

All U.K. Starion's had Limited Slip Differential!
It's the Lancer Turbo that never had a LSD, This is why the Lancers often swapped there diff for a Starion diff.
Heres an extract fron the 1st Starion brochure indicating that the LSD is "standard".
