This required the starching of the Necktie. (We called them field scarfs then). They would come back from the laundry stiff as boards with starch. I was issued ten field scarfs and two neckties. When the uniform required the field scarf, sometimes it took seven or eight field scarfs to get one tied correctly (Both ends must be of equal length after tying) if we goofed then that field scarf went back to the laundry bag, and a fresh one was tried. I was never good at this so when the field scarf was dropped from the uniform I can't say I was sad. | |
