This kid has had me on the edge of my seat since the day he was born ..... 20 minutes after we arrived at the hospital, I might add!! In any event, he will become Cpl officially on July 1st. Apparently, it went thru a month ago, but no one seemed to be aware of it???? Not sure what that's all about, and I'm not even going to question it! But this kid should have been promoted a long time ago .... had the pros and cons all set, Expert Rifle Qual and PT .... but just 'hadn't gotten around to' the MCT's he should have done!!! That's my son ..... sit on it, you know?? Went on so long it actually became a joke in the shop. In any event, he finally did them before deploying awhile ago, but it was too late. He knew he'd have to wait then, but it finally came thru. Since it's already in the computer, it will be backdated for pay and time in rank and all, so guess that's good, but leave it to this kid to do it with 'complications'!! LOL!!! But, this story gets better ...... he calls to tell me about the promotion and also tells me that he's going before the Board on Thursday, which in Oki would have been yesterday here for "Marine of the Quarter" ..... so pretty pleased about that, right? Well, I do my 'prayer and sent good thoughts thing' and get up to an email this morning that says he never made it to the Board!! Seems there was an accident at work ... he's okay, BUT .... guess they had disassembled a rotor blade box, drive shaft or something to that effect, and it wasn't secured .... a storm whipped up and the thing started bouncing around the flight line. He said he just 'reacted' and tried to slow the thing down from spinning before it got totally damaged ..... but the thing he didn't notice when he put the flat of his hand out was that it was spinning backwards and the sharp end of the blade was coming right at him and to put it in his words .... BAM ripped his hand!! So, instead of the Board, he ended up at the ER and 8 stitches in his thumb and 5 in his finger!! I'm just glad he's got his hand still, let alone all his fingers!! Now seems to me he should get some sort of Medal of Bravery instead of Marine of the Quarter! LOL!!! Or at least some points for 'putting mission accomplishment before personal comfort', hehehe!!! However, knowing the Corps, I guess he's lucky he didn't get a reprimand instead.... like he did when he had a dirt bike back at MOS school, wiped out, sprained his ankle and got cited for 'Destruction of Government Property ..... HIM'!!! LOL!!! Nothing is ever easy with this guy!! LOL!!! But, he's okay .... and we're still pretty proud of him anyway!!! He's my son .... what can I say???
