You ought to get away from all that snow and visit the nation's capital this weekend. Spring has sprung, and the cherry blossoms are in bloom.
Nice fishing weather. Took off a well-deserved day last week and drove down to Fredericksburg for the annual shad run up the Rappahannock River. With all the rain and snow melt we've had in recent months, though, the river was too high to do any fishing for shad. In fact, just three days earlier two fellows fishing from a canoe there at the fall line overturned their canoe, and one of them is still missing. His buddy told him to put on his life jacket, but he refused to put it on. His life jacket and paddle were found about a quarter mile down the river. The police helicopter circled the area the entire morning I was there, but to no avail. Even though I couldn't catch any shad, (being a former Marine prepared for any contingency) I took along a small tub of chicken livers to fish for catfish and caught a pretty fair-sized bullhead--large enough to provide enough fillets that evening for myself and the cat.
Praying for the safety of all our Marines and other men and women in uniform.
