In the early 1960s, I had to attend, as representatives of the Marine Corps, along with another Marine, a Chamber of Commerce dinner honoring the Corps.
We knew the other services had been so honored and a highlight of the evening was a parody of their service song. He and I were at the head table and we discussed
this between ourselves, loud enough for those around us to hear. His comment,"but this is a Hymn." did it.
There was no parody.
