I don't think it was much more than the love stories parts of W.E.B. Griffen's book series "The Corps" is. I know many hard chargers would like to see more action in many books and movies but many try to appeal to a broader slice of the public than those that devour action films. I thought the love story parts of the movie captured many of the thoughts and feelings of the "Greatest Generation" of the era.
