Response to Re: Tribute Bands |
| It is a sad irony, that tribute artists and impressionists in general, over a period of time, revert to self. They, (from a performance perspective) actually grow away from the artist that they imitate. It would seem logical that with time they would get better and better at what they do, more like the original artist, but due to regular performance the contrary is true. Like a virus, personal traits are infused into the performance and then magnified with each successive show. They mistakingly end up believing, having impersonated the artist for some time (pulled the moves, talked the talk) that they embody the spirit of what it is to be that artist. While not thinking for a moment that they are such, they feel endowed with a familiarity that allows licence to invent likeness, as in "it is Bowie-Like". What they are actually experiencing is the freedom within, the freedom that allows one to be ones self. |
