re: Bowie song at funeral

Abit depressing, especially in such a joyous Bowie week, but here goes;

I think the track that I would like played would definately be Wild is the Wind.

My funeral...

September 11 2003, 11:01 PM

Bowie's Wild is the Wind as they carry me in, and Nina Simone's Feeling Good as they draw the curtain. I have to leave on a positive note...

- You promised me the ending would be clear
You'd let me know when the time was now
Don't let me know when ur opening the door
Stab me in the dark, let me disappear

Sounds like the sucessor to 'My Death' anyone?!

Can't wait, have heard nothing but praise from every1, and a lot of folk preferring it over the original

Perhaps I can have the lp version at my funeral, and the Loner mix playing as every1 is leaving to go home

God this is getting morbid lol

What Bowie Track Will You Want Played At Your Funeral ??

September 12 2003, 2:09 AM

Tin Machine!

Remember playing that in my car during a funeral motorcaid and I thought - 'this is damned funny!'

It should end with everyone humming to Segue - Baby Grace (A Horrid Cassette)!!

Because he was so grand in the Big Lobowski, actor John Goodman will be asked to carry the urn.

Oh dear...

November 25 2003, 7:32 PM

"Warzawa" as everyone is coming in, before they bring me in.

"Days" as I'm being brought in.

"My Death" as the viewing starts (BTW, I've never understood viewings. I personally have no desire to walk by a casket and look in. I personally want the dang lid closed!)

"Conversation Piece (heathen remix)" as I'm being buried. I think that would be a beautiful ending for my body.

Man this is an odd thread. I don't like like to think about people mourning over me. Use what's left of me and then get rid of the rest. I don't like people sitting around and being all depressed. I don't want people crying over me. It's just my body! My soul's in a better place...Sorry reliving other funerals I've been to.

Warzawa is a bit long

November 29 2003, 12:15 AM

But it's a must in my book. I could just have it edited so that it faids in right before the "hu-mmm" starts and then plays the rest of the song.

After giving this some more thought I even considered "Needles on the Beach" and "Strangers When We Meet."

Come to think of it (id you have a twisted,sometimes-morbid sense of humor as I ...LOL)

November 29 2003, 2:48 AM

I'd go for "Moonage Daydream"!

LOL

"I'm a momma-poppa coming for you!"

(All I'd have to do is "hope" my rigor-mortis would make me spring up from out of 'the box ' in time with the song if my family would honor my wishes LOL. Hopefully,my funeral-parlor caretaker would be inept enough to not break my back beforehand so I could do the ultimate jack-in-the-box and really go out with a bang! And then (just for the hey of it,to be really out-there and weird as F@#!,have 'em put on "Nothing To Be Desired" after that . After all, death is the ultimate drag... Lest we forget..)

I'm a weird guy.
But I know it.
Does that make it okay?
Who knows?
Hey; I'm all for dropping your stress-bombs as you go and somehow finding a way to laugh at yourself at the tail-end of "your" tirades. You may as well.. It's all been said and sometimes you can put a new fence around the same yard and dress it up somewhat differently. Why not? It's Saturday after all LOL..

automobile accident.
Yes,... I suppose a bit of
Willie Nelson if I'm
"On the the road again"
would also be ok.
Something by the Flaming Lips
if I happen to die by fire.
Maybe a bit of Grand Funk Railroad
if I'm hit by the train.
Or a wee bit of Wilburn Brothers
if I'm from wrong side (of the tracks)

My dad insisted on David Clayton Thomas's version of 'God Bless The Child' but the rabbi thought the jazz break in the middle was inappropriate and cut it off. Later a fight broke out among my aunts - good times.

It's very melodramatic, but The Next Life (Suede) has a soaring yet melancholy sound, without being too depressing.

I actually think there's better versions: Mr. Bowie here oversings and overarranges Eden Ahbez's ethereal little song. Try Nat King Cole's...or George Winston's.
