Too many to remember. My first was The Kinks at Newcastle City Hall, sometime during the autumn of 1973. The week after next I’m going to see Iggy & The Stooges, Beck, The White Stripes and Franz Ferdinand. Rock just keeps on rolling.
Some notable ones are:
The first (and only) time I saw The Fall:
The first time I saw Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson:
The first time I saw Microdisney (they were the support):
I just downloaded the boot of that gig which means that I now have a recording of 7 of the 8 Bowie gigs that I was at (I don't think Tin Machine at the Newcastle Mayfair in 1991 is going to show up anytime soon).
According to Bassman, there should be an excellent (DAT) Audio tape (he rates it as quality 9+ ) floating around somwhere.... :)I hope you can track it down!
It would take me hours and hours to put my list together. Last time i counted my ticket stubs (3 years ago)...it was over 200 concerts. There were a few summers that i had free access to Riverbend, an outdoor venue. When i was single i would go to EVERYTHING i could. I have friends that are DJs, store owners and the sort that have always hooked me up. I've gotten spoiled over the years. When i do pay for a ticket, i'm shocked at some prices!
Ardent you are damn organized!
Ok, I will try to remember, but don't have the exact dates, when I remember I will put the date, or the tour name...

You bumped a 2006 thread, which mentions that my STS was half-inched by one of The Godfathers... and tomorrow night I'm going to see them play and fully intend to ask for my vinyl back (albeit 30-something years later)
mind you, OMD were the (at that stage 2 piece) support act & they were easily as entertaining as mr numan. it was a top nite out...so many years ago...
i bought the expanded version of 'replicas' a year or so ago...there are some great songs on there...wonky power-glitching analog synths & all...it is well worth a spin now & then...can't say that i've been that keen on the more recent stuff of his that i've heard (his voice grates a bit, i find)...but then i haven't heard very much of it, i suppose...people tend to forget how much of a breakthrough that album was in the day.
and I’m sure I’ve missed out a few … only included those that you would have heard of across the international ponds …
First … Lou Reed (74/75)
Last … David Byrne (2005)

Wow! What a Diverse list - I guess nothing less was to be expected from our Mr. K
So what was your fave gig?
is it the Bay City Rollers? Or would that be the fabulous Shirley Bassey My father once went to one of her shows and to this day he still thinks they "had real eye contact" ah well he was a bit of a charmer I guess
i saw bob marley in 81 or 82?...at brighton centre...man i'm surprised that the roof didn't lift off the place...breathe deeply & float off...he & his amazing band & backing singers was one of the greats & gave an amazing performance...blimey, i'd almost forgotten about that one!
can't remember a lot of detail..everybody had truly entered into the ...er...'spirit' of the occasion...but they played one great song after another - it made me realise what an amazing catalogue of material bm had written. how could anyone smoke that much weed & make such an amazing noise? i wish i could remember more details or even be more precise about the date!
i saw the clash there too, once (& also 3 or 4 times before & then afterwards in the usa) after the release of 'combat rock' - they were really tight & VERY LOUD - that must have been in the first half of 82?...oh,my (patchy) memory...
Ardent, seems like you and me are the only ones that've been to any of Eminem's shows Mine was in Oslo, Feb. 1st 2001... and this far he's the only internationally recognized artist I've seen perform live
****************************************** Forgive me , for I am both terribly young and terribly stupid
<So what was your fave gig?>
gee ... that's a tough one Ardent ... 50% probably had their special moments ... but esp. favourite were :-
WIRE - finally came to Oz a couple of years ago! what a performance!
XTC - @ Cloudland and the following night at the local football club!
Echo and the Bunnymen - I was soooo into the Bunnymen at the time and had a long lovely chat with McCulloch on the steps of Cloudland after the gig - totally charmed!
Nina Simone - in the words of Edwyn Collins - what presence - majestic!
Liza Minelli - oh god ... there are chills up my spine now thinking about that one ...
The Stranglers - one of the gigs was just amazing - tight/nasty/ Jean Jacques was pure sex
Nico - I just never thought I'd ever see her live - alive - memorable
Leonard Cohen - spent pretty much the entire concert weeping - my father had very recently died and he loved Leonard too - the seat next to me was empty - I bought him a ticket to come with me and of course he wasn't there - wonderful stagecraft witnessed behind the tears
Tiny Tim - night after night - he shared the bill with a drag revue for an extended season in a Brisbane nightclub - my b/f at the time was the stage manager - a living breathing singing jukebox of American musical standards ... amazing ... and sooo deliberately funny!
Ella Fitzgerald - another legend ...
Miss Shirley Bassey - well - she is what she is ain't she - the total package in very fine form!
Biggest fun? - Lene Lovich! - how I bounced!!!
Most boring/disappointing? - I forgot to add on the list but Prince! I left the Concert Hall to go by a Mars bar during Purple Rain - (Diamonds and Pearls era) - I was not alone ... mind you I heard nothing but brilliant reports about his last tour ... shame I missed that one ...
re: The Rollers ... LOL! - I use to hang with a few full on Roller girlies - the concert was sheer madness! - hilarious ... Eric! Derek! Les! ... hahaha ... I really didn't know one from the other and certainly not a fan of the music but screamed along anyway ... haha

Just never happened...........and me a Ladbroke Grove Boy !!!! Shmuck!!
Winston Rodney as Burning spear at the Rainbow in 81 was mesmerizing tho
seen him a couple o times since ..but good as it was .....the magic from that night was just unique and one of my fave ever gigs
James Brown. Live At The Apollo, 1962,
Little Stevie Wonder - 1963. When he recorded 'Fingertips'.
Bob Dylan - 1966, The Royal Albert Hall of course. For a jape, I shouted 'Judas'.
The Rolling Stones - 1969. Hyde Park. Oh and Altamont too. I was standing on stage rolling my eyes and stuff. Therefore I might be seen in the film, 'Gimme Shelter'.
David Bowie - Beckenham, 1969, around the time Space Oddity became a hit
Iggy And The Stooges - 1970, playing the Funhouse set, when Iggy was congratulated by Chuck Berry.
Roxy Music - 1972, when Eno was in the band.
Lou Reed - 1973, when Dick and Steve joined him on guitar.
Kraftwerk - 1974. Around the time of 'Autobahn'.
Television - CBGB's, 1975. When they were just starting out, trying out little numbers like 'Little Johnny Jewel' and 'Marquee Moon' for the first time.
The Sex Pistols - 1976, The 100 Club.
Blondie - 1977. Supporting Iggy. When Bowie was playing keyboards.
The Fall - 1978.
Neil Young - the 'Live Rust' tour 1979.
Talking Heads - 1980. When they were just starting to unveil the 'Remain In Light' material.
Madonna - 1985, when she broke through.
Just happenned to be in the right place at the right time for some of these.
Unfortunately I don't bother keeping tickets.
That is a shame, as I guess some of the tickets for these gigs could be worth something.
Ok, are you joking about the Stones Altamont show! Because there is that classic scene of the freak on stage tripping his brains out rolling his eyes, and suddenly he is pushed off the stage by a Hell's Angel...WAS THAT YOU!??
Well...here's my list so far. I'm sure i've been to others...but, my bong resined brain can only remember so much.

There are more punk bands, I'm sure, but I'll need my memory jogged for those.
The Sixties cats were pretty much all at the Beatles Xmas show 1964 (Yardbirds, Freddie & the Dreamers, Elkie Brooks), which my parents got tickets for as a Xmas treat for me and my brother (and them, of course ). The Stones were later -- the '80s both times I saw them, as was Melanie (also during the '80s).
Most of my gig-going years, apart from DB concerts, seems to have been during the punk era, as you can tell from the plethora of rubbish bands on my list.
I must say, Stranger's list had my jaw on the flippin' floor when I saw the 'DB in 1969' entry. It took me several seconds of blinking before I sussed what was going on. Good one, Stranger!
This might be me having blanked them out completely, but I can't remember seeing the Troggs at the Floor Show! I'm sure I only saw Carmen and DB and the Spiders. Now... either the Troggs were filmed at a different time/day, or I really have got holes in my brain. My Lou-Reed-nut friend was there on the day when they did the filming for 'Time' (so he got the day when there were lots of dancers), and another friend of mine was there for Marianne. It seems that all three of us saw different bits, but none of us the same bits!
There must be a documented running order somewhere. It seems none of us were disappointed with any of the bits we got. My Lou-Reed-nut friend said to me not long ago how amazing it felt at the time to get an invite, like it really was something special. Funny though, because none of us three friends knew each other at the time, yet we all got to go. Common as muck those invites must have been.
I think a lot of these things depends on being within a certain age range within a certain time, and in the right place geographically. It's like what you said about me having seen The Beatles. It turns out that Mr C was also taken by his parents to that Xmas show, as was another friend of ours. Mind you, I was ten for the Beatles show, whereas Mr C and our friend would have been only six. I do remember that the Beatles had very orange faces from the panstick make up, and I was so overawed by all the screaming teenagers that I remember asking my dad if it would be all right if I too could scream and wave at John Lennon. He said waving would be all right.
"Admission to the show was by invitation only and those who attended included 200 democratically selected (by ballot) members of the newly formed International David Bowie Fan Club, rock luminaries, staff and patrons of The Marquee and selected musical press - all keen on seeing Ziggy rise from the grave to perform one last time. Included in this exclusive audience were Angie and Zowie, Tony Visconti and Mary Hopkins, Lionel Bart, Dana Gillespie, Long John Baldry and Wayne County
"
I was going to say earlier when I hit the link you put up to 5years, that I'd always remembered the invititation to apply for Floor Show tickets as coming from the Appreciation Society, not the International Fan Club. But I might be wrong there. I know I joined the International Fan Club, but didn't stay a member for long because we never got anything! A few photos, as I recall, and an invitation to join the Jipp Jones and Zowie Bowie fan clubs, which is when my cynical hat went on and I ducked out.
That's some list you've got there! You must have been going to gigs practically every night.
I got to know Eric Debris of Metal Urbain through some mutual French friends, so sort of hung out with the band a bit. They were nice lads, and I always thought Eric in particular had a lot of talent. A very intelligent and ambitious man. Not sure what they're all up to these days. I guess I should go google and see what's what.
Spooky ... I picked up a replacement copy of Punishment of Luxury's "The Laughing Academy" vinyl today!
I loved that album and almost squealed and got all wierd and nervy when I saw it in the second hand bin today for a fiver. In fantastic condition. Well chuffed to have it back in my collection.

Indeed Ardent, I ony just returned all my ticket stubs home over the weekend following our office move
I had brought them in, intending to sit down one evening after work and list them all up for you
I'll bring them back in... it's worth doing I guess, and I'll keep an updated WORD docu for my own personal pleasure/reference
May I show off as well? I think I may make a few convenient omissions! ah no I'll put them all in then
Pulp 13/7/96 (part of the Feile festival which included Cast and Super Furry Animals)
Bryan Adams (my mother's idea!)
Cher(my mother's idea again!)
The Pogues
Oxegen 2004
Queen (with Paul Rodgers)
Elton John
Blondie
The Pogues (again)
Ok, Ok... I'll put in order my list some day. I have no 10 free hours right now.
Can anyone tell me how George Clinton / Funkadelic / Parliament are live these days? And Seu Jorge? Both will come next weeks. Anyone have watched them live recently?
Really enjoyed reading some of the anecdotes. Some great gigs mentioned, I've always wanted to see Lydia Lunch live, and I did try and see Ultravox (with J.Foxx) but didn't get into the licensed venue, I was but a nipper back then. Here's an attempted list but I'm sure there will be omissions.
*23 Skidoo ('82)
*Altered Images ('79)
*Associates ('80)
*Beck ('01)

I'm sure there are more, but I'm drawing a blank now.
Yeah this thread turned out to be everything I could have hoped for It's really great to read all the little stories and see those sometimes incredible lists!
Ok - I've been resisting this as it exposes my prog rock nightmare phase in the 1970s, my lapse of gig going in the mid 1980s followed by my brief dip into dance & soul and finally my determination to see bands I'd never got around to in the 1990s & 2000's but what the hell here goes anyway :-

Never saw him in his prime Hermans Hermits phase but I've seen Pete on a few occasions since in Reading, Guildford & Wycombe venues. Met him a couple of times too and managed to get Oh You Pretty Thing out of him in Guildford. His usual set consists entirely of Herman material (which is fab anyway). As a performer he still cuts it. Laughing & joking with the audience (who edge towards 50/60 years olds as you'd expect) his voice is still exactly the same as it was in his heyday (which can't be said for everyone on the circuit). If you get a chance go along.
Ardent - I was very very lucky to catch Kate - I mainly went for Gabriel so it was a pleasant suprise that her show was amazing (in her words). Poetry, Mime, Staging, Illusionists, Lighting, Dancers - it had the lot. The most theatrical production I have ever seen by a musician. We weren't to know then she would never tour again.
