The Fountain (Bowie related)

full story

One I can't wait to see is writer-director Darren Aronofsky's trippy, time-traveling tribute to true love, 'The Fountain,' starring his Oscar-winning fiancée/babymama Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman. Yesterday, Darren and Rachel, both nattily dressed in the sort of perfectly tailored clothes most of us only see in magazines, strolled into our Unscripted set at the Roots store with their beautiful three-month-old son Henry Chance (and a lovely woman I presume is his nanny) in tow. But hey, this isn't Celebrity Baby Blog, so I'll stick to the topic at hand -- their interview about 'The Fountain.'

Once the Unscripted started, Darren seemed surprised that the reader questions -- especially one about the movie's theme of death -- were so specific. He couldn't believe people knew so much about his movie. I guess he didn't realize what a cult following he's had since 'Requiem for a Dream' (don't know about you guys, but it's one of my Top 11 favorites).  Darren explained how the movie stems from his desire to visually depict the David Bowie song 'Space Oddity' (you know, "This is Ground Control to Major Tom …") and his interest in the figurative and once literal quest for the fountain of youth.

I pray you'll sooth my sorry soul.

Interesting. I didn't know Aronofsky was a fan. This sounds like a very interesting movie, that, for some reason, has languished in post-production for a very long time but it seems it is slated for an autumn release (or so I hear). I'm very much looking forward to it.

Love this film, as you said Darren Aronofsky was influenced by Bowie the name Tom, Tomas and Tommy coming from the name Major Tom, but I also found out on Wikipedia that he wanted Bowie to sing in the film as well;

Musical score
Main article: The Fountain (soundtrack)

Clint Mansell, the composer for Aronofsky's previous films, and Requiem for a Dream, reprised his role as composer for The Fountain. The San Francisco-based string quartet Kronos Quartet, who had previously performed for the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, and Scottish post-rock band Mogwai also contributed to the film score.[28] Darren Aronofsky hoped that David Bowie, whose song "Space Oddity" helped influence the film's astronaut period, would record a "third Tom song" as the musical artist worked briefly with composer Clint Mansell during production.[18] The plan was for Bowie to rework pieces of the score and to vocalize them, but this did not go through.

Meg is looking BAD! I loved her soooooo much back in her early career. She is not aging well at all. I think she looked her best back when she did the movie DOA with Quaid.
