Thanks for... (no, not hesitating ) all the help our lovely BWWers gave today -- Sun, for his endless shlapping and support, J73 for being an absolute star in the sound department and David for taking infinite photos (which will be forthcoming very soon) -- and of course, to Ann (from Harper Collins) and everyone that turned up.
Last, but most definitely not least... I would like to say a huge thank you to our very own Mr Visconti... for finding time for us in his hectic schedule, for being warm and charming as ever and on a personal note, for making my mum very happy
You will be like your dreams tonight

You mean the (un)usual suspects? Yeah, they almost jump out the screen at me and grab me by the throat, but it might have been fun to try and put names to the people I don't recognise!
Thanks for the photo's posted for all to look at. It was great to meet Tony Visconti - he seemed a really approachable, down to earth kind of person. My hubby and I were a bit nervous as not having been to one of these do's before, we werent sure what to do!? I managed to meet Ardent Desir - very recognisable from his many post on the messageboard - he seemed nice and pointed out a few other BWW's - it's great to put faces to names. Our photo was taken with TV and I wondered if it was possible to get a copy or to post on here, we would very much appreciate it. We were gutted to have missed the Q and A session, after we had the book signed we werent sure what happened next, now we know! We had a great day in Covent Garden anyway, well worth the effort! Here's to the next time.
I probably have piccies of you here! I've got nearly everyone that was there, so if you email me at candydate@gmail.com with a description of you and your hubby, I'll try and find you
Do you look the same as you do in your login pictures? O Bowie fans? I recognize Lucy from the pics of login I think. I know Paul and some of the others. Nice to see you again. Paul is that your new boyfriend? Hope it all went well and jolly..... Cu soon......

Looks like you all had a great time, glad it went so well, and although a few pictures don't replace being there for real, they are always nice to see.

Ah good stuff glad it fired off well. Re: Name that face - that's interesting cos I don't know most of ye, err Sweety are you the Marc Bolan lookalike? Great, TV's lookin well.

yeh, it really was a good day.
tv was great & very patiently signed all the stuff put under his nose.
after the signing, i had a brief chat to him & asked him if he got pissed off about the (still bandied about, i.e. you see it in sloppy journalism now & then, even these days) 'brian eno produced' berlin trilogy. he gave me a briefly rueful grin & said that yes, he does get pissed off with it. however, he did go on to say that both brain one & db have themselves put the facts straight when required. you know, i also meant to ask him more about the drum sound on 'low', but forgot, lol! for my money, tony v did change the face of popular music with some of his productions & techniques - the low drum sound being a case in point as it really did set the template for loads that followed - and there are only a few people that have done that...so, maximum respect is due, imo.
he also told me a little about his schedule over the last week & frankly it does sound like a pretty heavy one & a very, very busy time. so, showing up on sunday & being friendly, polite, funny & indulgent of questions & comments that he must have heard/made/responded to about a million times showed more patience & goodwill than others might show

Totally agree about the drum sound. If he never did anything else after 1977 that would, or should live with him forever. Luckily for us, he did go on to produce much more. He is up there with the best in my opinion.
He's number 1 in my book, and that's coming from a girl who may know little about techie stuff, but she does know a good tune when she hears it and recognises a genuinely kind, funny and generous nature.
She also knows a right looker when she sees one (see the photos just after page 240 -- On the back porch of Haddon Hall 1970 )

You were much missed sir .
Here's another smudge
As you can see there were so many cameras going off for this particular encounter that Mr Viisconti just couldn't make up his mind which one to look at
We ran out of books (as they were all snapped up pretty quickly), so people were disappearing off to Waterstones to get copies... this is one of the last to be signed
Tony also got asked to sign a t-shirt (not a wet one ) This is the before
Those that had their Lodger cover's signed, have the TV 'ringing db's navel' signature!
This was great fun, and it was lovely to see fellow BWWers again and to meet some of 'em for the first time. There was a massive turnout and everybody seemed delighted - and only right too.
A massive well done to Sweety for making this possible, and to J73 for providing us with the choons. And of course the star of the day was Mr Visconti himself - what a lovely and gracious man he is! And the book is a damn fine read so far.
Sounds like you all had fun. We need a book signing in Australia so all of the Aussie BWWers can get together. TV if you are reading this, escape the cold and come for a holiday.
John? Chas? Charlie or Martyn? Or all four? Thanks for a great event btw. Cool that I could get away with not buying the book and still have a great time!
I never got around to say hello to you all
except for Sunrise and Ardent.
We got caught up with the nice T.rex fans
from Leicester, John and Glen
(quite easy to remember)
So cool that you had one of me (winter pale and all)
and the wife, at the start there.
John, the Bolan fan, kidnapped Tony, so I'm sorry
about that first half hour.
But it was a great treat for us, of course.
We took so many good pics and managed to lose our camera
on the way back to the hotel.
We had a great couple of days in London, and although a
bit baffled by Tony name-checking me on the Q & A, I managed to
ask a question about his bass playing.
If you read this, Tony, then good luck on Friday.
(nothing to be nervous about)
cheers
Joern

Thanks very much for finding us - it's a great picture too! Had a good time, Tony Visconti seemed a really nice guy, we just wish we'd stayed longer for the Q & A session. Maybe next time!
I am so sorry I had to miss it as I had planned to go. Sorry I missed a chance to meet people and Lucy in particular. Hopefully there will be more chances.
That's a picture of Mr. Visconti and Lucy, who is holding two books... and I suspect that one of those books is mine. :D Thank you, Lucy! And thanks, Ardent, for posting the pics.
Gawd, it's a pity I look so dire in the pic with Mr V. But Julie, yes, one of those books clutched in my grasp is indeed yours! I have it out in the corridor so I don't forget to bring it with me tonight. Laters!
My signed book came this morning (Thanks Sweety). Not sure about Morrissey saying TMWSTW has a soft sound, but cannot wait to read what the man himself has to say. Some great pictures (and hairstyles ).
Thank you very much for the photos! Lucky you who were able to attend the meeting!
I recognize from the pictures Baz, Ardent and Blue Blue, who I met.
Hope to meet more BWWers in the future.
This is my first post, so if the following sounds a bit jaded or contrived I apologise.
Whilst my enthusiasm for most things Bowie has never died, even during the lean years between 1984 and 199....., the Visconti event rekindled the fire.
I would belatedly, like to add my name to those who have already thanked sweetythang for making it happen. Anybody fortunate to have attended would be in agreement that she did a grand job. It would have been very hard if not impossible, to find a more pleasant and relaxing venue. Of course a big thank you to Mr Visconti for being so approachable, humble, patient and above all else for being so awfully nice. It is often stated that one should never meet their heroes because it can only be a let down; in the case of Tony, anything but.
It was a day I will treasure for a very long time, so thanks to everyone involved and sorry for taking so long to do so.
And all the way from Dorset too -- welcome! It's always good to have a new member
It's a shame you didn't get to the T-Rextasy gig, it was a great night and Tony was fantastic! (There's a thread on here about it, I'll bump it up for you )
PS: I hope you received the photos OK, I think I got your email right?!
Thanks for the welcome, it took me longer to join than it should have done, but better late than never.
I bet the T-Rextasy gig was amazing. I've seen them before and the singer plays and performs the Marc part brilliantly. But to see them with Tony, well that's something else.
I did receive the email and photos; very impressive.
