Started by a couple of Cardiff DJs monkeying about putting record sleeves in front of their faces, the art of 'Sleevefacing' quite quickly went on to become what people generally these days term 'an Internet phenomenon'. From a Facebook group to worldwide media coverage, Sleeveface parties and a Youtube video hit, Sleeveface took hold of a certain part of the world, namely those people who like to take pictures of record sleeves held in front of their faces. Naturally, for such a visual art, a book was inevitable. And soon, very soon, that book, cleverly titled Sleeveface, will hit the shelves.
Featuring 192 pages of pure Sleeveface fun, the book is a treat for those who love record sleeves, those who love art and those who like to laugh at pictures of Barbara Streisand's face with the body of a dog. One of these very people is none other than a certain David Bowie who, of Sleeveface said, “Just the best sight gag in ages”! Indeed.
The book will be available in all good stores from Monday 17th November. Links to pre-order the book are featured on www.sleeveface.com
In the meantime, Sleeveface will be hosting another of their legendary parties:
Swansea - Monkey Cafe, Friday 12th December featuring Sleeveface DJs John Rostron, Carl Morris and Carl Forecast (B-Music Wales), £4 (www.monkeycafe.co.uk)
Gotta say it is funny, though I was doing this in 1985 with friends. I shall try and dig out some pics. I think we started it with a John Lennon sleeve and a joint.
