Learning about David Bowie is my latest buzz.

I guess it will take a long life-time to digest his work.

I hope you have yet to buy a single album. Buy them in the chronological order they were released and enjoy again what some of us did all those years ago!

A co-worker suggested exactly that.

I was given a CD of Liza Jane and early 45's.

I will buy them in order as they were unleashed.

Listening in order will be rewarding.

Listening to anything in any order is also rewarding...and check out some of the films as well. As a recent convert myself, I can predict that hours of happy obsession await you.

Tell the others.

It was definitely murder - but was it art?

I'm quite jealous because you are about to embark on a truly magnificent journey of discovery and delight.

Just make sure you either listen through headphones or have the volume at full blast! wink.gif

I spend about an hour on the freeway each morning and today I gave the first album a play.

Was the intended as a musical?

It kind of feels like a dysfunctional family. Tragicomic characters in a strange dreamy world.

Each track appears to centered on a mini stage all of it's own never reaching the walls, drawing attention the the fact that it's a staged piece, or a musical piece of work.
The pacing allows eloquent silences to build between the tracks as if to insist that what we see is not the whole story.

I find it a very different style to the first recordings and can only assume it was written for the stage. Am I wrong to assume that it was written for a musical?

My ride today said it was maybe about David Bowie's own family experiences.

That's quite an interpretation. You should be aware that the work of the genius is subjective and is designed to be elusive that it produces a different experience for each listener. What you hear is purely your experience alone. We can speculate about the lyrics and come to simular conclusions, but the experience as a whole is yours.

Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere angel.

Spot on, Clover!

As a die-hard Bowie fan from 71, I recall listening to Low late at night on a transistor radio either on the John Peel Show or Radio Caroline and I could not believe my ears. I had never heard such drivel, or so I thought on first hearing. Within a few weeks I had listened to the album a few times more and it blew me away.

Sebastian, you will get quite a shock as you journey from album to album.

Despite being a Ziggy-ite, Low is my favourite album.

Low was my way in, and we've moved forward and backward through time. It still works.

I also note that your ride is being subjected to your burgeoning obsession, and luckily sounds a good sport about it.

It was definitely murder - but was it art?

Would you please remove the 'It was definitely murder - but was it art?' from your posts - it is starting to become a little irritating.
