Every time i switch around the Radio the Kings Of Leon are playing and to be honest I hate them, yes hate them.
Ok when Sex On Fire was released it sounded great until they constantly killed it with overplay.
Since then any KOL track i really hate, cant see all the "hoo ha" about them?
Even U2 and Aslan won't shut up about them and how they're the new cutting edge in music.
Rant over sorry but i had to get that of my chest.
Hey,Coldplay too ive really got a turn against them after the last album, total shite.
Better shut it.wink.gif

That's the problem with Top 40 radio...something in rotation will be played until you want to fling the speaker across the room when it comes on for the seventeenth time today.
And I'm sure that Mr. Martin is a very nice guy who doesn't deserve my wanting to take a hatchet to him. Maybe I'm just irritable.

It was definitely murder - but was it art?

This is why we all need to turn off the radio... Well, commercial music stations at least. I work in non-commercial talk radio. You should leave that on... happy.gif

But what I meant to say is I haven't bought an album on radio's recommendation since, oh, 1993 or so. And I don't know many people who have.

So here's what we could do. We need to pull together and get through the Dukedrought with some great new music. Perhaps we could start a weekly recommendations thread for music appealing to Bowie fans. Music that's not getting played to death on the radio. The author could specify their country-of-origin as airplay here in the states is usually quite different than the UK. And friendly critiques of each others lists should be encouraged.

Am I off-base here or could this be a promising weekly addition to the messageboards?

I don't get KOL either. With music there's always an element of fashion and the emperor's new clothes, popularity is affected by perceived popularity and songs / artists can just snowball out of nothing.

I might have some of the details wrong, but there was this absolutely fascinating scientific study, where 1000's of teenagers were given 50 or so songs to listen to and told to report on what their favourites were a month later without consulting each other. The results saw that there was an even spread, everyone had different tastes & no one song dominated the polls.

Whilst another group of teenagers were given the exact same songs but told to discuss the music with each other and listen socially. With this group there were clear favourite & unpopular songs amongst the group. The students allowed other people's opinions to influence their own. Songs perceived to be popular became popular for only that reason.

I don't like KoL about the only song I like is Sex on Fire. Luckily I dont listen to the radio much so I still like it. I don't like his voice much.

I don't mind the u2 one. well a couple of tracks are OK. The Killers however I love. though on friday and saturday I heard Human too many times by accident. kind of waring thin on that one.
