Favourite Bowie Music Videos

I'm new to being a Bowie fan, only about a month or two, but I have seen a great load of his masterful music videos. I can't believe that David Bowie has made so many! The first video that really intrigued me was Life on Mars?. David is so striking in the video! I don't think he is very "good-looking" but none the less he is very attractive, if you know what I mean. I kept wanting to see more of him! I really like the video for Blue Jean too. I think Bowie's makeup in phenomenal and his dancing is fun to watch. I think Time will Crawl was a very creative video also as was Miracle Goodnight. I really like the gestures Bowie adopted from the dance group La la la human steps.

I didn't say it in the title, but how about least favourite videos as well? My all time least favourite video is Be My Wife. I think David has never looked worse! My gosh, he has a unibrow going on and his face is all distorted! Anyone agree with me?

I just love the (uncensored) 'Loving the Alien' video.

'Underground' is one of my least favorite videos.

Undergound I love for the montage of Bowie faces as the song hits the first chorus

otherwise my favourites are

Survive (works much better to the album mix), such a dramatic interpretation of a mundane every day occurence. A lonely middle aged man waiting for his egg to boil.

Jump They Say - just awesome in many ways.

Little Wonder, Floria Sigismondsi is a visual genius and Bowie does some great puppet movements at the end. Also, IMO, has the optimum edit of the song (censored video edit), which is slightly longer than the single edit.

China Girl - starts off slightly lame, but gets better and better. When the song kicks into the 'Em D C B' chords section, with the groovy bassline, the video really shines. From the widescreen monochrome, claustrophobic running through the crowds section, the spinning embrace that fades from grey to colour, to the make up smear at the end, just brilliant.

Life On Mars? - Mick Rock's best ever moment, the washed out post prodution effect is almost mesmerising.

Ashes To Ashes - iconic, almost defines an era.

3 Faves in no particular order are

Jean Genie - captures the era perfectly! Trashy and glam, love it!

Heart's Filthy Lesson - artistic and clever, taken over from previous fave Ashes to Ashes for the same reasons.

China Girl - the Bowie that blew my socks off when I was 13 years old - still melts my heart every time I see it!

That's the whole point of that particular video, it's called art.

Bowie has never been attractive in the literal sense (not to me anyway) but he was always attractive and alluring in an intriguing sense.

For attractiveness in the literal sense, then boy bands are the ticket wink.gif

Welcome to you as a new Bowie fan btw, it's great to have you here happy.gif

Attractive Bowie

June 6 2009, 3:20 PM

Excuse me, but I think that The Gentleman is a very literally-attractive gentleman. I think that every boy-band member goes to bed at night dreaming he could be as handsome as David Bowie, and that his voice could be as beautiful as David Bowie's. Just my opinion

Oh yeah, forgot about this paranoia video - very, very good!

Unusual that the 4th video from the album should be so high budget.

Don't think that has ever happened before. Even the 3rd video from his biggest seller was just a live performance.

Bowie videos.

Love FASHION and Bowie as the poor sad Pierrot/Harlequin in ASHES TO ASHES. Also, LET'S DANCE and CHINA GIRL (Sexy, shapely bare Bowie!) and LOVING THE ALIEN where Bowie is at his loveliest (save for the blue-face scenes, the nosebleed, and a scene where he makes an unflattering face). LOVE the part where The Gentleman glides over the water on his knees

Well I suppose if you think weird alien type looks are literally atttractive in a literal sense?? then who am I to argue LOL! wink.gif

LOL! I don't think so Sparkina! I mean I can't really see David Bowie fitting in with a band like West Life, Take That, Blue or whoever, no matter how handsom or voice beautiful you personally might find him.

< (save for the blue-face scenes, the nosebleed, and a scene where he makes an unflattering face)>>

AGAIN! it's things like that which made David Bowie, David Bowie.

No offence Sparkina but I reckon if Bowie had joined a boy band type band in his younger days, you would probably have fancied him even more than you do now! me thinks you and some others often miss the whole point of David Bowie. wink.gif happy.gif

"Well I suppose if you think weird alien type looks are literally atttractive in a literal sense?? then who am I to argue LOL!"

For crying in Amlapura, MT, The Gentleman does NOT look like a weird alien, he looks like an ANGEL

"AGAIN! it's things like that which made David Bowie, David Bowie."

It's the beauty and originality and memorability of his music that makes David Bowie, David Bowie

Methinks the whole point of David Bowie is that his music is different in style, sound, and genre from one timeframe to the next but consistent in its uniqueness, excellence and beauty (and yes, I am including Tonight, Never Let me Down, and the Tin Machine years!)

China Girl for me. The first video that somehow showed David's true personality, rather than the alien rock star. (Yes, I know it showed more than just his personality)

Maybe it's just that I can't see it because I'm a straight male, it must be a woman / gay male thing? wink.gif

Well yes I agree with you Sparkina, although not every album was consistently brilliant?? You however seem to forget a massive part of Bowie's core appeal other than the actual music, was his wierdness and daring when it came to visuals, whether on video, film, or stage. happy.gif

>Welcome to you as a new Bowie fan btw, it's great to have you here

Thank you M.T.!! :D

And hey, I'm a female but I don't think David Bowie looks like an angel :P I think he is attractive in the sense that he is interesting and I want to see more of him, but I never thought he was "hot".

I forgot to add the Jump video to my list of favorite videos!! I really like that one, especially when all the dolled up girls are saying "jump", and all the old stereotypical business men. I was also disapointed by the animated New Killer star video. I mean it was well done and all, but I wanted to see David Bowie! sad.gif

<< I was also disapointed by the animated New Killer star video. I mean it was well done and all, but I wanted to see David Bowie! >>

I couldn't agree more, it's like David Bowie just couldn't be bothered actually appearing or he wasn't interested into actually putting any real inventive effort into his work like he used to, a sign of the whole Reality period and what was to come during the following years to the present date sad.gif plus watching that video with all the lines really does give me serious migraine, from that view point alone I just can't watch it. sad.gif

On the subject of videos I loved the Jean Genie video along with Be My Wife and Heroes but I often change my mind like everyone else. Out of all the videos Bowie did though it's the more basic simple ones that appeal to me more rather than the OTT production types. happy.gif
