David and Melissa -- reason for parting?

This post made me wonder

"Melissa danced like an angel with The Gentleman. My heart skipped a beat watching it."

I've seen pictures of Mister B and Ms. H. dancing, and they looked very much in love. Their faces radiated love's sweet enchanted glow. It was like there was a neon sign above them, BO LOVES MISSY AND VISE VERSA

Has anyone ever read or heard the reason for the Bo-and-Missy parting? I mean, Melissa Hurley ALMOST became Melissa Bowie. Now, of course, known fact, Iman is Mrs. Bowie, but does any B-fan know WHY The Gentleman and the Dancing Girl parted ways or who broke whose heart first? (Break his heart. Break her heart)

Yeah the age thing could be one reason. Another could be intellectual. David is widely read and widely travelled with many interests. Melissa was a young dancer. Physical attraction only goes so far. Now Iman is much closer to David in age and also intellect. She was educated at the Sorbonne, speaks several languages, is widely travelled, sophisticated and urbane. She was much more suited to him.

Physical attraction? You mean, they weren't in love? Any feelings Mr. Bowie had for Missy were all ... in ... his lowers?

Dang, now my image of them is totally blown sad.gif happy.gif

I'm sure they were "in love" for a while, but there has to be more than just good looks to sustain a relationship. Look at all the beautiful celeb couples who have split up. Brad and Jennifer? J-Lo and Ben Affleck? Peter Andre and that woman with the enormous bosoms. Things change.

From the man himself.

"We fell in love after the (Glass Spider) tour was over, while having a holiday in Australia. (Hurley was) such a wonderful, lovely, vibrant girl.

I guess it became one of those older men, younger girl situations where I had the joy of taking her around the world and showing her things. But it became obvious to me that it just wasn't going to work out as a relationship, and for that she would thank me one of these days. So I broke off the relationship."

Bowie, 1994.

Does anyone have any pictures of them together? I've never heard of her, but I agree that 20+ years difference is a little criminal...

Apart from on-stage pics there is one of them in the back of a limo together, which I'm sure someone will post for you shortly. (I can't find it - I'm at work).

I see, but one does wonder why The Gentleman didn't figure out that it wouldn't work out with Missy BEFORE he slipped her The Sparkler and said "be my wife." happy.gif

Propose

June 4 2009, 8:56 AM

I remember an interview where he referred to her as his fiance. When asked if he was going to get married he replied that that was what an engagement usually meant. Can't prove it, but I remember it.

He's a man. Like all men he was thinking with the lance of love and not the head.

I read it was her religious beliefs that he couldn't put up with.

I don't think Melissa was that good-looking or that they looked particularly in love to be honest. But they don't look as weird together as him and Lulu did...
