I'm nominating this one, just learning to play it on the keyboard happy.gif

The wonderful piano sections, the mentioning of the girl's Daddy, the melodrama, the suburban tragedy of the slightly sci-fi lyrics all remind me of Life On Mars?

Well Saint Bob was/is a huge Bowie fan.

Favourite intros? Mick Ralphs' genius intro to All The Young Dudes and Mick Ronson's genius intro to Ziggy Stardust. Plus most things that Keith Richards and Angus Young have come up with.

Saint Bob is a pretty tall guy, he was sat behind me at the Astoria '99 concert.

Favourite bass-line intro to a song has to be Bernie Edwards's 'impossible' playing on Everybody Dance.

I used to have on tape an interview with Geldof that was recorded (and played) on the day that I Don't Like Mondays went to number 1. They talked about the hit, then they talked about Bowie. I can't remember what it was that he said, but I do recall that that was when I discovered that he was a hardcore Bowie fan. For all the embarrassing shit he's done since, I still have a soft spot for him, knowing that he's a Bowie fan.

That's a great question and to be honest my minds drawn a blank.
That Stones intro is something allright.wink.gif
Honky Tonk Woman,Wish You Where Here and Here Comes The Sun spring to mind now for some reason?
Edit,
A Day In The Life,Absolute Beginners,ah it's hard?

Gloria - Patti Smith (has to be one the greatest first lines?)
Dum Dum Boys - Iggy
Noel's Chemical Effluence - The Fall (peculiar and perfect moment of grandiose from MES)
