..... let me know how you go with that for entree!!
And just to let you know, EJ posted this at TW this week, until June 21st he was a NC virgin:
And to name the best first: Nick Cave was fantastic. I have seen quite a few concerts in my life and Cave's Hurricane show is a mighty contender for the top ten best gigs ever witnessed by EJ. A brilliant choice of songs played in epic rock style by an explosive band lead by a real star. A milestone version of "Stagger Lee", a cracking "Tupelo", a mighty "Ship Song", a thrilling "Mercy Seat", a roaring "Midnight Man", a catchy "Weeping Song" - and many more moments of unleashed excitement from a front man of absolute extra class.
Everybody, don't die before you've been to a Nick Cave show. Just don't do it. Would be a waste of a lifetime.
NC is on a tour in Europe/UK at the moment... just do it! You really won't regret it, even if you don't know the songs

hmmm... then you might like to go here to The Death of Bunny Munro website, and listen to the first chapter of Nick's new novel. Written and narrated by Nick, music by Nick and Warren Ellis.
You know, Nick's been around the fringes of my whole life and I've just never gotten into him too much. Now he's filling a void that Bowie has left after having been such a huge huge part of my life for 26 years

Not strictly discovered as such but the Charlatans are doing it for me these days especially their last album released in March 2008 You Cross My Path which is very New Order sounding.
It's hard to believe the Charlatans have been going for 20 years now!! where the hell does time go?
PS This album was originally released as a free download via the XFM radio web site then released on CD afterwards. ( I read somewhere that they wouldn't do it again) I never got the free download for no other reason than I simply missed it at the time. I bought the deluxe edition which has a bonus CD with two extra tracks, live tracks and two videos, my point being I really am not comfortable with all this free downloading thing, really I'm not, I don't care whether some think it's the bloody future Bands like The Charlatans or whoever, whether you like them or not need supporting, and as a Charlatans fan You Cross my Path is worth 6 - 8 quid of anyone's money. If we don't support artists with hard cash then don't be surprised if we are all left with a music scene consisting entirely of Simon Cowell / manufactured wannabes.

by a long way the best album of the year so far is primary colours by the horrors. i went back and bought their first one too.
also diggin the new kasabian which sounds insane on the first listen but grows and grows.
i think the new placebo is about 50% great.....but they do seem to be running out of ideas.
other than that i bought a reissue of the first modern lovers album which sounds brilliant.lots of very good extra trax too !
i am also re visiting magazine and digging them deeply.
