Disgusting comments about Michael Jackson...

I was asked to remain on topic in past months when the Man. Utd/Liverpool debates where underway. Now we see terrible jokes about a man who recently died and there doesn't seem to be an issue. Where do we draw the line exactly? I can hear the rumblings about free speech...same old crap. The man is dead, he has children, family members, and fans in a lot of pain. How about we have a little more respect for the dead?

I don't know what country you are from, "Gouster" but in countries like Britain there is a tradition of "black" humour in which (to quote Wiki) topics and events that are usually regarded as taboo are treated in a satirical or humorous manner while retaining its seriousness.

I presume that, since you appear to be incapable of comprehending this, you are American and/or 12?

Pretty safe bet none of the above are visiters to this board.

Assuming you are British Nibbler, I completely understand the Brit fascination with Black humour. Being Liverpool Irish myself means that I also know dark humour and how far it can go . However, there should be a line in the sand. I am neither American or 12, but I am a Father of Michael Jackson fans. I care more about how hurt so many people are over his death, than to find something to laugh at in early sudden death, or pedophilia. The man was disturbed, and he did lots of things that bothered me. He should be left in peace, and his family should be allowed to grieve. Part of this mans life was a sideshow, it shouldn't be in death.

I appreciate your viewpoint. If I'd known Michael Jackson personally, or was a devoted fan, I might even agree with you. But I'm not. According to UNICEF 25,000 children die every day around the world. Are they any less important than Michael Jackson? Most of them die through the tragedies of disease, starvation, poverty and war. He had every adavantage that it was possible to have. Untold wealth, that he squandered. he filled his body with prescription medication rather than eat, when there are kids starving to death every day. I have more sympathy for them than for him. They're sad. He's fair game.

don't bother even trying to argue this point. some people have morals and some don't. i applaud you for respecting life, but unfortunately there are people who will use the right of free speech for hate speeches. i don't think it's right, but you have to realize there are plenty of bad people in the world and as long as they're operating within the laws they cannot be stopped.

just try to ignore these people. they say their mindless hate because they want a reaction. i'm not a fan of billy mays or farah fawcett but i wouldn't go and make jokes about their life when i see people discussing their tragic deaths.

Thanks for a mature positive response. I don't know how we got to kids and unicef but there shouldn't be any such thing as fair game.

Calling jokes "hate speeches" is ridiculous.

Bloody boring PC board this is.

The 'real' Michael Jackson died years ago.

Farrah Fawcett didn't turn her life into a freak show to warrant the amount of jokes that Jackson did. His life was his choice, he had to live with the consequences.

Hopefully he may finally rest in peace as he was a tragic, disturbed individual on this planet (who used to be a genius two decades ago).

It's not the board, it's just that troll and his cohorts/alters. Ignore them and hopefully they'll fuck off back to TWatland where they belong.

Listen Nibbler, my original point was that I was asked to stay on the topic of Bowie when I strayed. Millions of posts have talked about every other stupid subject under the sun. This particular target deserves more respect. If you don't like me having a problem with it that's fine, it doesn't warrant your responses.

Well, Gouster, since you didn't use the "hate speeches" line I would have thought you could work out that I was referring to the "Eddie Charles Jones" troll that SLC was talking about.

Jeez you bloody scallys are a touchy lot.

Like you Gouster I'm a Liverpool fan and have to put up with stupid scouse jokes as I now live in the south but they're water off a ducks back as nobody takes the piss more than me. There is a line however. Comedy is all about taking the mick. You just have to be careful who your audience is. I'm sure Mancs tell Hillsborough jokes but they won't tell them in front of me. Vice versa for Munich.

I don't know Michael Jackson and don't know many of his proper fans but if anybody is going to die and generate plenty of jokes its Jackson. His life was a pantomine. I don't blame him for everything he did in his life, his family are all fruitcakes and I put it down to there non-existent childhoold.

I'm sure Jacko was probably a nice person but there will always be questions about his sexual orientation and to me there is nothing lower than being a paedo. I know he got found not guilty but he also paid off Jordy Chandler and that to me is a bribe.

I thought I expressed my outrage to this joking. I might have only posted where Bowie is concerned. If I haven't, I'm appaud. I'm a MJ fan in pain.
I can tell a lot of you suffer from some of the same things that MJ struggled yet you have no empathy or compassion. KARMA I say again. Whatever comes to you, you deserve. Will you joke then?

I'm not trying to win points from nones of ya KMA in the middle of Hart Plaza.

Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere angel.

I think the correct figure is close to 29.000 per day. And they die because of diseases that could be cured. Not expensive medication in most cases, in fact a few cents could be all that is needed, per child. USD or EUR, same difference.

10,500,000 little children per year. Die. I mean.

Michael Jackson? Very sad - but we all die, in the end.

The real tragedy - these little children.

This Jacko character admitted in an interview he liked to share his bed with children.

If I met anyone who admitted that to me I'd be ringing the police post-haste.

Not to goaded into responding by you placing my name in your message title... I'd prefer if Michael Jackson, Liverpool, Clay Aitkin et al were never mentioned on this message board - but that isn't going to happen is it.

Some of the jokes are tasteless. Irrelevant of how anyone feels or thinks about him - and I'll keep my own opinions to myself - his family should be respected.

Interesting grouping Paul, Michael Jackson, Liverpool, and Clay Aitkin...I take it "these are a few of your least favorite things" (to be sung in a Dana kind of way).
I mentioned your name in the post as you run this place, and I doubt if you read every single post. Not to goad you at all. Regardless of the Liverpool/Manchester divide I genuinely appreciate all your work on this site and visit daily.

Hey Gouster.

For a scouse twat, you talk sense for once happy.gif

As does Paul.

For all those millions who are superficially grieving, id say there are, equally, a hardcore of a dozen or so family members who`ve had there hearts ripped out.

Love On.

Interesting, I remember when Princess Diana died, i was really upset. I think it was the first time I had really felt grief - I was married, simlar age and family situation (kids - not income - sadly much additional personal grief since then). But I was a devil for enjoying jokes. Just my way of detaching fiction and reality, I suppose!

Can't say MJ or his music floats my boat but I was shocked when I heard about his death. Yet I enjoy the black humour!

I don't mind the jokes, but I won't join in.

I've always had a soft spot for many of his groovier numbers. When I throw a party I like to keep an upbeat vibe to the tunes, and I usually alternate between more recent and classic tunes

E.G Basement Jaxx then Chic, Killers then Isley Brothers,

There are about 6 MJ numbers that often find their way into the music under the category of classic:

Don't Stop Till You Get Enough
Rock With You
Off The Wall
Wanna Be Staring Something
Shake Your Body Down To The Ground
Blame It On The Boogie.

It feels kinda weird to hear these songs suddenly now being played on the radio everyday.

When I was about 13, MJ was the first artist I got into around the time of the Bad album, prior to getting into Bowie in 1990, so there's probably an element of nostalgia attached.

We decided to go to Bramall Hall - so if I'd of called it would of been a flying visit.

You can blame Dawn anyway.

Almost six years? Jesus that's way too long. Yes we'll sort something out and go for a drink.

One slight problem though I don't drink anymore... I just gulp wink.gif
