Re: Bowie

August 9 2009, 9:48 PM

A friend who works in the music industry up in LA, recently told me that he had heard that Bowie had another pretty bad heart scare at the end of 06, basically putting paid to any hopes of any future recordings or events indefinitely. It looks like re releases are all we can look forward to here on out.

We've been round the block once or twice already with this kind of blather. There would be no reason for Mr. Bowie to keep an illness secret, and it would be almost impossible to keep such a secret in the goldfish bowl of the YouTube society. People 'in the music business' frequently like to fuck with the heads of people who are not. Just saying.

I think you're absolutley right. A big name celebrity like him, living in the middle of New York City with his supermodel wife, has a second heart attack and somehow it's kept a secret (except to people in the music biz)? I don't think so. The Insider, E News and TMZ don't sleep on the job.

Re: Bowie

I didn't want to believe it either, but guy has no reason to make it up, and it could just be grapevine stuff, but thinking about the point he stopped being proactive -which was around that time-it makes sense. He was due to turn 60, as well as perform at a festival he was curating the following year, neither of which he followed through on particularly, other than his introduction for Ricky Gervais. His only involvement in anything of note was a written thing for Iselect, and a none speaking role in Bandslam.

One of the reasons Bowie lives in NY, is it is far easier to fly under the radar than it is in say LA or London, which is a hornets nest as far as the tabloid's are concerned. I think its perfectly conceivable to have a heart attack in the area he lives, and those maggots be none the wiser. Its a different vibe entirely, hence why he can put on a baseball cap, and wander the local market anonymously.

Lets face it,something is amiss.

Yeah but he's done loads of red carpets / exhibitions and the like since the end of 2006.

Apart from several appearances at Moon premieres this year, according to Wireimage he's done:

- Keep A Child Alive's 5th Annual Black Ball - 13 Nov 2008

- "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art - 5 May 2008

- 7th Annual Tribeca Film Festival - Vanity Fair Party - 22 Apr 2008

- 4th Annual "Black Ball" Concert for "Keep A Child Alive" - 25 Oct 2007

- 11th Annual Webby Awards - 5 Jun 2007

- 2007 CFDA Fashion Awards - 4 Jun 2007

- The H&M High Line Festival 2007 - 9 May 2007 - 19 May 2007

- "Poiret: King of Fashion" Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art" - 7 May 2007

- Lou Reed is Awarded George Arents Pioneer Medal, Syracuse Universitys Highest Alumni Award - 26 Apr 2007

- 6th Annual Tribeca Film Festival - Vanity Fair Party - 24 Apr 2007

- 2007 Food Bank of New York Can-Do Awards Dinner Honoring The Edge and Jimmy Fallon - 23 Apr 2007

You'd think that if he'd had a heart attack sometime after he appeared at the Royal Albert Hall with David Gilmour on 1st December 2006, to the extent that he was seriously ill, someone would have noticed something at all these events. In the pics of him meeting Bill Clinton on 23 Apr 2007 he looks like he's bursting with good health. See here.

Former President Clinton is a big guy! We could probably extrapolate Mr. Bowie's height from these pictures.

And his social schedule suggests he's doing all right: "Not another charity art fashion event, dear...one more beggar's purse and I'll SCREAM!"

I think Clinton's 6 foot 1. In comparison Bowie looks about 5 foot 8 in those pics.

Recall that during the course of the evening pictured above, Clinton and Bowie (both well known enthusiasts of the saxophone) talked about performing The Kinks Village Green Preservation Society together.

Clinton initially liked the idea but declined when he remembered the words to track 14 "Monica".

(Lines like "Monica knows, you know" and "Monica knows every line" would simply never go down after the Lewinski affair).

what can one say, we've been kept in the dark for this long.
If you want news or trigger a response, all I can think of is: let blammo at bowienet know.

It's the only email address I know is public at bowienet.
Other than that, try calling Isolar, they're in NY if I'm correct.

But this will trigger a "leave him alone" hysteria as usual, which is bs imo so, make up your own mind.

Re: Bowie

August 11 2009, 7:46 AM

If evidence of redeeming health was based on merely showing face at some red carpet shindig for a couple of hours, then so be it, but I'm not convinced, even if he does look well on some of these. Other than a minute at the webby awards, which is nigh on impossible to hear over a German tv audio, we have nothing. Photos?-well yes he looks remarkably well preserved for a man of 60 something-but so the f**k what? Where are the interviews for anything? Where is any contribution other than a few tossed off words through the usual tediously controlled outlets?

If he was well, this would not even be a question-why? Because there would have been at least two more albums and a flood of youtube links since 2004-but this is how it looks, a couple of cameos in things , like the Prestige, Extras and the Scarlett Johanssen backing vocals (for which she wasn't even present on?),and the Dave Gilmore thing (which was his last full live singing performance-not counting the Ricky Gervais intro at Meltdown which he had been publicized as performing several days at )-and then suddenly after 06-nothing-not even a statement for his sixtieth Birthday.

You make the point of celebrity, but seriously, he is so invisible now, why would anyone in the media even care, let alone the public. I worked with someone who was just 21 recently, who had no inkling who David Bowie was, less cared about any legacy he had. When reminded of a song they may have heard which turned out to be Lets Dance, they remarked that their parents may know who he was.

he may think its ironic that he hasn't said anything about retiring, since he's already done it twice already, but its past the point where there is a snippet to hold onto-even rumors such as the Tweet from Berlin were shot down by Blammo afterward's, so really-what is the point of believing anything other than it's over? With no official word, no NEW release on the horizon and nothing forthcoming even in the shape of a few tossed oohs on someone else's record you make up your own mind.
