It has been, of course, splendidly ironic that the work of two of the greatest progenitors of punk, Mr. Pop and Mr. Reed, has Mr. Bowie's fingerprints all over it. Not exactly three chords and the truth, but like the good ol' American hot dog, containing some added ingredients.

the way he sings the chorus sounds similar to how the some of the chorus in atyd is sang, but i don't think it's intentional, but this is like the only green day song i've ever liked, so it would explain a lot
