I was never a big fan of Reed. I had Lou Reed playing today on my iTunes...and it just clicked. The live version of 'Heroin' on Rock 'N' Roll Animal was absolutely stunning. That entire album is fantastic. I then tapped into Berlin. Again...very cool. I love 'Lady Day'. 'The Kids' is a trippy, dark, twisted song that kinda left me numb. Strange...yet beautiful. I won't get into Transformer. I have been absorbed by that album for awile.

Just find it odd how one moment you really don't have the taste for a certain piece of work...then one day it just clicks and it becomes clear.

Yeah Lou is fantastic. I only began listening to him properly in January of this year. I love Berlin the most. That's one of the few non-Bowie albums that I'll listen to in full. I listened to it a lot during the snow in February this year. That and Here Come the Warm Jets by Eno. I had a bad cold at the time and I swear I can still taste the Lemsip and feel the cutting cold air when I play both albums.

Caroline Says II is my fave song on Berlin. Men of Good Fortune is another highlight. Love the lyrics and the bass in this one. The whole album is a highlight of course but those two songs really get me. Long may you listen. Have you checked out Street Hassle yet? Beautiful stuff. I'm bitter that I missed the Berlin performances last year. I've yet to try Metal Machine Music which I have heard is a challenge and a half!

At this rate, Nick, you might end up listening to Mozza someday wink.gif Seriously though, I hated him for ages and one day he just clicked with me.

Nick you must get Coney Island Baby and Legendary Hearts as well.

I'm still not sure what Metal Machine Music 'means' Dr. J? Perhaps it could benefit from 5.1? wink.gif

Growing up in public, The Blue Mask and Live Take no Prisoners are experiences to be had as well. happy.gif

From the very first note, I knew I would adore the album Coney Island Baby. I struggle to get into Berlin (perhaps I neede to be there).

Don't forget to pick up 'Lou Reed Live' the second half of the gig Nick! Not as great as the first part but essential for completeness mate!

In response to: "Don't forget to pick up 'Lou Reed Live' the second half of the gig! Not as great as the first part but essential for completeness!"

- Yes, strange how seldom 'Lou Reed Live' gets a mention when it actually comes from the same gig as 'Rock 'n' Roll Animal'. They ought to be released as a double CD, don't you think, doctoroctopussy?

- Me too, iggyziggy3.

In response to: "Caroline Says II is my fave song on Berlin"

- Mine too, J.

As for Morrissey, I used to listen to both his solo works and The Smiths a lot when I was younger, but not anymore -

Berlin is great, I had listened to it a lot and then recently i gave Transformer a spin again after not listening to it for a while. Both are just classics.

Street Hassle has to be one of the best of all. The NYC Man 2cd collection is a beautiful way to start.

Golden Dawn is right get the NYC man collecion 2 cd set.

Also do not forget Songs for Drella an album about Andy Warhol which Lou Reed and John Cale made together.

And I also have to mention Magic and Loss. It reminds me a lot of Berlin, but is a bit darker and on some moments a bit lighter.

I haven't listened to it in a long time, but it's one of my favourites, Bettina.

Have recently MP3d this from my old cassette and forgotten how cool it is.

Style it Takes is just awesome on that record. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it!
