I think this is a great recording of broadcast quality. The shows on 4th and 5th august were during one of the hottest UK summers on record. I remember well the sun going down just as david sang Life on Mars. Other highlights include Changes (a very punchy version). The atmosphere at the start as the first chords of Space Oddity broke was electric. I can't believe it has been 19 years.
Love to hear your opions as to how this ranks with other live recordings such as Nassau.
I was there - it was a lovely sunny day and a nice evening which is always a bonus at an outdoor gig.
I recall that the Bowie performance was good although I thought that the overall sound was a bit 'thin'. I think that this was down to it being a small band in a big venue.
I remember one of the support bands breaking into the Laughing Gnome during their set which raised a laugh.
Those big curtain things that some visuals were projected onto were quite effective, I thought.
I will download this - I got someone to record the gig off the radio (it was broadcast live on Radio 1) so I can throw those old C90s out now.
Your welcome guys. For the record, I was at the gig the night before on 4th Aug. Only difference in set list was that Panic in Detroit was played instead of Jean Genie/Gloria. Fantastic experience.
Funnily enough I played the cassette only yesterday for the first time in years as my new (but old) car has a cassette player.
Excellent sound quality but quite a boring set.
But then it was a greatest hits tour I suppose.
I must have attended the other Milton Keynes gig (or else how could I have taped it off the radio).I remember Him saying "Last time in London" but He also says it on the cassette.Surely He wouldn't have made the same mistake both days?
The 'Laughing Gnome' support band were The Men They Couldn't Hang. They charted with a song called Great Expectations I think.
For the sake of accuracy I've just remembered that White Light White Head wasn't played on 4th.
I understand what you guys say about the sound. However, it was just a 4 piece with bowie on Guitar and the visuals were terific. Ziggy Stardust was poor in comparison to the Reality Tour. Still it was an exciting time coming as it did during the Tin Machine experiment and the Ryko / EMI reissues.
Yep I had my finger on the record button for the Sunday night performance too. I then found a really good bootleg CD in a local independent record shop. Unfoertunately I lost it a few years back so it is nice to hear again and bring my collection up to day. Does anyone know where I can find a download of Nasseau. Of course I know it it to be released officialy but would like to bootleg non the less.
I was there too. It was great. Though I couldnt beleive they wouldnt let anyone take in bottled water and once you get in they tried to sell it to you for 3 times the price!!
anyway.. it was a great day out. I liked the simplicity of the S and V stage set. The selection was good though alittle predictable.
The support were crap though. can't believe david even mentioned them. Best support I've seen on a bowie tour was Morrissey at Wembley on the Outsiders tour
Was Morrissey a proper support act or was it more a Morrissey and Bowie tour? I mean,Morrissey is a leg end in his own right. His fans are as fanatical,if not more so,than us.
ha ha good point. In NZ in 1983 he had a kiwi band called Dance Exponents which were one of my favourite bandas at the time and Aussie bad the Models which were good aswell so really I felt like it was all well worth it.
Although a big smith's fan(after they split)this was the first time I saw moz 'live'.
Probably not at his best due to whatever, but he left a big enough impression to pick up on and have followed him musically ever since.

I thought Moz was great. Not much more to say really. I also saw him twice last year at RoundHouse and O2 Festival. Brixton Acadamy last month and I have tickets for Royal Albert Hall and Alexandra Paly in a couple of mnths time.
I really wanted to see moz when he did all the small venues two years ago but couldn't get a ticket.Lucky enough to get a 'Returns' for Symphony Hall B'ham this time 'round, only for him to cancel.Hope he makes the new date in October?
For all his oddness there's something about moz that draws you in.His latest material is not as strong as previous two releases but its got its highs!
Although moz has had a few pops at bowie since the 'outside tour', deep down I feel he has upmost respect, just doesn't show/say it,and probably never will - in print anyway?

I think Morrissey's new album 'Years of Refusal' is one of the best yet. I love most of his stuff from 'Your Arsenal' onwards. 'You are the quary' was quie brilliant. And if yoiu haven't bought the updated versions of Southpaw Gramma and Maladjusted you should. New running order, additional songs. Quite a different listening experience
