ISP numbers are dangerous and stupid to display

September 27 2009 at 2:04 PM

Ching-A-Ling  (Login Ching-A-Ling)

Are you aware that many websites and most hackers use IP addresses to monitor your personal business and that your home address and other personal information about you can be retrieved once your IP address is known?

If your IP address isnt hidden, virtually anyone with Internet access can track you directly to your home. Everyone can see this information - including hackers! Your firewall does not hide your IP address.

Putting these ISP addresses back is a foolish and irresponsible thing to do.

They need to be removed asap.

As long as you are aware of the consequences that's all I care about.

It is a dangerous and unsafe act to display members ISP numbers.

At least you know now.

What you care does not bother me. I like to point out the dangers of such actions.

Please yourself.

I'm glad

September 27 2009, 3:54 PM

The ISP shows that once again my neighbours(whom I wireless piggy back with) have joined this forum and are attacking people as they did with Skirty and The-boy-Nextdoor!

They follow me around and think it's funny to destroy my on-line friendships.

Paul kinder knows I am only one person and have only ever had one log-in.

I want them BANNED.

I've had the same problems 'under-the-god' Peeps pretending to be me and it looks bad.

This is why I want the ISP numbers removed.

It makes certain members look bad and they are not!

That is the intention from these ISP hoppers.

I only hope members can see through these peeps.

We are real, but there are fakers out there.

A simple ISP tracker will help you locate the trouble makers.

Hope I've been of some help?

Sean, I am not obsessed with your log-ins. I was quite happy to keep quiet about your alter egos until you decided to attack me whilst wearing one of your log ins (Skirty - Juvenile Success) .

I merely found it bewildering that it wasn't obvious to everyone else who all your other log ins were.
It felt like I was Neo in the Matrix, the only one who could see the truth.

Now I guess I wasn't the only one as someone has asked Paul to put the ISPs back on, or maybe Paul is peed off with it and has decided to expose you. Funniest news I've heard all day. I must say I was impressed with how you remembered all the passwords and log-in combos! happy.gif.

We all still like you, but when you've hit the bottom of the hole, stop digging.

Wrong again detective Titchmarsh. The reason you found it bewildering was because unlike you the others were not obsessed.

Paul knows I have only EVER been one person on here.

I am happy to have ISPs on here as I have nothing to hide.

Sadly I am far from the bottom. I am at the top looking down on you.

If so I didn't mean to do it maliciously. Sorry if it came across that way. That was over a year ago. I'll go and find the post and delete it to reassure you.

I was actually defending you! Some people here thought you were a bit dim from some of your outlandish posts. I was just saying that from your I.P location, you were most probably an academic and thus intelligent. I argued that you were so smart that you didn't mind playing the fool.

I didn't think any harm could have came of it as I didn't deduce anything that anyone else couldn't have done with the same information that available on all your posts.

Sam, I used to think you were smart until you attacked Dr Ink for a spelling mistake which he didn't make (it was an alternative, yet equally valid spelling) and then you had to quickly edit your post to correct your spelling mistake whilst berating him for his non existent mistake. Oh, the irony!

Angry, cursing Sam isn't a good look for you. If you have an issue with your IP address being displayed, so people can work out your location, then use a proxy server when you post here.

I stopped thinking Sam was intelligent a little while ago when he showed his true colours in his misguided and pedantic attacks on Dr Ink & 2HB. Sam disguised his stupidity by pretending to be a smart guy acting stupid.

I initially thought that Sam might have been right in his accusation, because I did put his visible i.p. number though an i.p. tracker which told me which city he posted from, but when I went to check my posts I saw that I didn't say which city it was. I merely concluded that he was probably a tutor.

If everyone wants to believe Sam's accusation then bear in mind this is the same guy who has said: I'm selling my wife's breasts on Ebay ..... I'm morbidly obese..... I'm so thin and gaunt that I look like a ghost. I'm so ashamed of my wife that I burnt her. I'm going to court for an indecent act with a farm animal. etc.........

Check the links I gave above so you can all see how I used to defend Sam in the past.

Bullshit. I've just used a couple of tracers and they tell me that I live in Lakemba in Sydney. I don't. I presume that's where my ISP has its hub, which is probably serving the whole of the inner-west of Sydney, but it is ten or twenty kilometres from where I am located.

I'm pleased that PK has put the IPs back on, there's been far too many trolls hereabouts lately.

Re: ISP numbers are dangerous and stupid to display

September 27 2009, 10:09 PM

I'm pleased to see that PK and/or Network54 have chosen to display IP addresses again. If it stops all the flame posts and stuff, it shows that someone is taking the maintenance of this board seriously. I have no idea if it's PKs doing or Network54, but I would take it even further and not allow anyone to subscribe to this board unless they use a valid email address such as Whomever@bt.com or another such valid ISP account address, instead of the generalistic (and I include myself in this btw) Whomever@hotmail.com/gmail.com/yahoo and all this and for the life of me, I can't understand why people are so worried about their IP addresses being published publicly.

I don't know the laws of other countries, but I can tell you how IP addresses work in the UK.

The only two numbers of an IP address that really matter are the last two digits. These are the ones that give your name, addresss, phone number and so on.

Now for example, somebody falls out with someone on here, or someone takes the huff or something and the aggrieved party decides to report the other person to that persons ISP, for example you report someone to bt.com

Due to the data protection act in the UK, the ISP WILL NOT give you information on that person or their whereabouts.

The ONLY way to get that information is to take that persons ISP to court and in the case of multiple logins or slagging on this board, you'd be laughed out of court holding a bill for court costs and very lucky that you haven't been charged with wasting the courts time. It would have to be something very serious for the ISP to even take your complaint seriously.

In the case of 'Piggy Backing', you could report it to your ISP and they MIGHT take that seriously enough to investigate it and back you up if the ISP reports that person for theft of their bandwidth though again, you are the one who has to locate the person who's piggy backing and report that person to the police for theft of bandwidth. To the best of my knowledge, that's only happened once in britain and the person doing the piggy backing was let off with a caution from the police.

IMO, the only people who have any reason to moan about their IP addresses being published publicly on here, are the people with something to hide. I couldn't care less if anyone posted my IP address on a huge billboard on Sunset Boulevard! (Bowie connection, btw)

Multiple logins, various ip addresses, different identities I mean you have to smile don't you happy.gif

People trying to be funny? people trying to confuse? even those whom I suspect are too afraid to stand by their own convictions / thoughts using their proper identity ( that last point is the reason the majority who do these things, do it IMHO )

Whatever the reasons are? I'm personally confident enough in myself and my own convictions to stand by whatever I say, regardless of whether or whatever I say is right or wrong in some peoples eyes.

As for those who insist on coming on here with several identities, then I personally will treat them as the identity they are using at any particular given time, because they are all the same to me, i.e. words on a computer screen. wink.gif

Sam.. Spam, chopped pork and ham.

How about you do a search for your 'home location' on BWW in the search box and if you get a result in a post of mine regarding you, then email me the link & I will delete it immediately before the bogeymen come and get you.

I can't do this as I don't know your 'home location', so I can't search for it.

Thanks. happy.gif
