Most Brits do anyway.I think they're the greatest nation.I love their arrogance, their solidarity and their fuck everyone else attitude.I'm not particularly proud to be English but I would be proud to be French.

It's perhaps not a bad thing to maintain an attitude of "Prove to us you deserve to be in our country while wearing those shorts." My sister LOVES France and the French (she's been there much more often than I) and would live there if it were less appallingly expensive. I consider myself a patriotic American, but there's nothing in the rule book that says I have to agree with everything my nation or its people do. Adam Lambert, for instance...don't get me started.

Sit on my karma

I was meaning I love everyone regardless of whatever country they come from with the exception of those who reside in the Conservative party the Liberal party and the New Labour party and of course the clueless gits in today's Royal mail management here in the UK.

Does that make it any clearer dear?

Not everyone hates the French. At the weekend 96dbWife and I decided (while in a Turkish café) that we would in future have a different international theme for Christmas at home and that this year we would start with French. Given that we have a number of French cookbooks (paticularment M. Anthony Bourdain et Mlle. Laura Calder) this should not prove plus difficile.

I'm a Scot too, have been living in France for two years now and I can honestly say there is nothing wrong with the French people. They have a different culture and so, a different mindset, that's all. I've only had a problem once with a French guy who was a twat anyway, but that's it. If, as occassionally happens, someone tries to get smart with me by speaking super fast French, I just reply to them in my normal Scottish, but there's never any bad feeling.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed when these 'Why does everyone hate the (insert nationality of your choice here) threads started because nobody posted one about 'Why does everyone hate the Scots?'

During WWII, it was an alliance between britain, France and Russia which helped defeat Nazi Germany. The USA didn't want to get involved until Pearl Harbour at which point like in the movies, the cavalry rode over the hill and took all the glory, hence movies like 'Saving Private Ryan' and so on.

Every war that the USA has been involved in, they've basicaly been fucked. They still go on about Vietnam to this day! They're going to get fucked in Afghanistan too. The Russians had to withdraw and they had 8 years there. What makes the USA think they can win in Afghanistan?

'Hearts and minds', 'Shock and awe', all soundbites which the general American people (not all), buy into!

Was it Eisenhower who when leaving office warned the American public, 'Beware the military and industrial complex', yet to this day, the US D.O.D have ignored that warning and the result is, many young US soldiers are being maimed and killed on a daily basis in a fruitless war that they can never win.

Then some of them have the cheek to slag off the French, amongst other nations!!

Now, that's shock and awe!

The Americans were involved in WW2 long before Pearl Harbour with the supply of arms to the Allied forces.

The "Axis of Evil" (Germany,Italy and Japan) intended to combine forces and surround the USA with 200 million troops (America could have mustered 30 million at best) and eight tenths of the worlds resources at their disposal.

Luckily for great Britain Hilter made the wrong (right for GB) decision to concentrate on Russia, whereupon the Germans tasted defeat.

Pearl Harbour and the subsequent bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki meant Japan were stuffed and Hitlers plan to create a new world order was OVER.

The Americans have only ever claimed to have ended Hitlers plan to take over the world.

The war was won by free people taking up arms to fight oppression and this was something Hilter could not understand.

Nicely put. Yes...the United States were involved prior to Pearl Harbor as you stated. It is a common tool for those that are ant- American to say that we 'just sat back' until Pearl Harbor. Total bullshit. And...we NEVER claimed that WE won the war either. We know we couldn't have done it without the help of our allies. Funny how the entire world has forgotten how we have helped out in sooo many situations in history...yet we are now evil and war hungry (until we are needed again).

Yes, the Americans were involved in WWII before Pearl Harbour. IBM supplied the punch cards and machines which helped sorting out the prisoners held in concentration camps. I.G.Farben was responsible for the running of Daschau/Auswitch and even made the gas which was used upon the prisoners, so yes, I agree that the USA were involved in WWII BUT only in a business capacity.

Until Pearl Harbour occurred, the USA was in two minds about becoming involved in overthrowing the Nazis. It's alleged that the US D.O.D knew about the Pearl Harbour attack weeks before it happened, but allowed it to happen in order for the USA to have a legitimate reason for entering WWII and conveniently, allowed them to test the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

To date, America is the only country to have detonated two weapons of mass destruction in a wartime situation, so I don't think they're in Afghanistan to prevent the Taleban from getting their hands on nukes, since there seem to be plenty of reports involving the Russian blackmarket selling enriched uranium. It's probably more to do with a huge oil pipeline that runs straight through Afghanistan and the thriving opium market.

This isn't anti-Americanism, but it's the non Hollywood version of events. Don't get me wrong, I think britain is just as bad (or as good) at propoganda as the USA!!

I do believe that the oil pipelines are definately on someones agenda, they need to be secured for sure.

The possibilty of terrorists getting their hands on nuclear weapons is as real as terrorists making dirty nuclear devices, there does appear to be a lot of items MISSING.
I suppose the main concern with respect to terrorists should be focused on those in a position to build, and bring with them, their own devices, as well as on those able to steal an operable weapon.

Kosovo Bombing Campaign - not exactly a war and it was Serbia that got bombed, in response to Serbian actions in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina

So why did Saddam Hussein invade Kuwait? Before the invasion, the US ambassador to Iraq, April Glaspie, said the US would not interfere. It was a reasonable expectation. Saddam was a US ally against Iran, so much so that between 1985 and 1989, dozens of biological agents were shipped to Iraq from the US under licence from the Commerce Department, despite the fact that Iraq had been reported to be engaging in chemical and possibly biological warfare against Iranians, Kurds and Shiites since the early 1980s.

Maybe you got taught different history at school in the US, but I certainly cannot recall being taught (brainwashed maybe?) that the USA won WWII. I do remember reading that they made a pact with Russia and jointly built the Berlin wall in an effort to prevent Naziism from ever happening again, but as for the USA winning WWII? I don't think so, so that can be crossed off your list too.

Again, this isn't anti-American, it's from the history books, pre-World Wide Web.

Er...bullshit. According to this:

"The Iraq Resolution or the Iraq War Resolution (formally the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 [1], Pub.L. 107-243, 116 Stat. 1498, enacted October 16, 2002, H.J.Res. 114) is a joint resolution (i.e., a law) passed by the United States Congress in October 2002 as Public Law No: 107-243, authorizing the Iraq War."

No. I said that you didn't win WWII, so that could be crossed off your list. Whether you helped win it for your own gains (Operation Paperclip?), or for the good of humanity is a different matter. As I mentioned earlier, the USA was very reluctant to become involved until after Pearl Harbour. Cleaning up after the mess could be called helping, I suppose, but it's a bit disingenuous to claim that the USA was as heavily involved in WWII as was the alliance between britain, France and Russia.

We will never know...but, it would be interesting to see what WOULD have happened if we wouldn't have helped AT ALL. What do you think would have happened, Mist? Curious.

i really like french people and french stuff in fact i would say they are pretty great at most things except rock music and war fighting.
i am english and live in the states. i would say the cool person to asshole ratio is pretty similar to england. we have had some really fucked up politicians recently that have tainted the world's view of the USA but obama is trying his little heart out to put that right.

I don't think they have 'rock music' where I live. It's mostly very poor imitations of Daft Punk and I mean, very poor!! Johnny Halliday and Mylene Farmer seem to be about the closest to 'rock music' that they get around here, and I'm not kidding!

If you guys think that America is sooooo evil...why not boycot EVERYTHING American?? Can you do that? You all talk the talk...now walk the walk. Stop listening to all your Bowie recordings. He lives here. He must be evil. Hypocrites. We are as screwed up as the rest of the world. Big deal. That's not news. To say that we didn't win WWII with our allies has got to be one of the most stupid things i have read on here. I guess EVERY HISTORIAN...EVERY BOOK is wrong? Mist, i think France has gone to your head. I know you all love dishing out your ant-America bullshit....so try living without our cuture, food, movies, music, art, technology and any aid that you have ALL asked for in the past (and will in the future). Rant all you want now. I know for a FACT that not one of you can go ONE day without some form of American influence or item. If you say you can or do...in the words of one of the fools on here...PROVE IT!!!

I'm sure i will now get some gibberish as a response.

Calm down, Dear. It's a commercial!

I never said that I thought USA is sooooo evil. You pointed out the spin that Hollywood puts on things in the MILK thread, and yet when confronted with facts, you flip out! USA did NOT win WWII, in fact you may have become the biggest losers and you only became allies when it suited your purposes or rather, the purposes of the OSS before it became the CIA, rather than for the good of humanity.

As for living without American goods and services, I reckon I have a better chance of doing that, than you have of living without Scottish influence on your country.

In fact, I'll bet that you don't even know who discovered the land of your birth in the first place! (And no, it wasn't a Scot).

That America and the allies had to side with Stalin who in many senses was equal to Hitler and then surrender Eastern Europe to the iron curtain - was hardly the act of countries that "won" a war. This must be doubly so for the US who had spent so long opposing communism.

So from that sense, I think only Russia was a "winner" of the war. Of course, there was a plan to keep going - all the way through Russia and I believe Churchill supported it. An utterly frightful thing considering the economic crisis Britain was already in. Still, if such an act may have proven to save WWIII (thermonuclear) from happening - as became a constant threat after Hiroshima and the nuclear armament of the USSR, then today we might be saying it was utterly necessary.

Half of Europe which was occupied by the Anglo-American armies was truly liberated, while that half which was occupied by the Red Army merely exchanged one nightmare for another.

Britain was mainly engaged in Africa I believe.

i get very tired of the seeming anti-americanism of this place and of many europeans. it is not only boring, tiresome, silly, etc., it is also just plain ridiculous, shortsighted, xenophobic, etc. i spent a lot of time in the usa and found it (& many of the people) as fascinating, charming, friendly, entertaining and wonderful as i have anywhere else that i've travelled.

ffs, people are people wherever i have been, whether it's the eastern block, western bloc, africa, asia, etc. their politicians are often of a different stripe. judging the usa by george bush, 'fundamentalist' 'christians' (yeh, sic), or t.v. shows like 'friends' or what some cunt journalist says in a u.k. newspaper, is simply silly. like judging the u.k. by what you see on 'eastenders', the queen, the fucking houses of fucking parliament, the times or the sun.

as you were.

I agree 123Paul. The US have offered a great many things culturally that I myself love to bits.

However, there are also negatives, dare mention one and you get accused of being Anti-American?!?

Surely everybody hates the French because they're horrible cunts? Just as everybody hates the Scottish because they're horrible inbred cunts?

What would one call someone who originated from Scotland but fled to France to leech off their benefits system while sub-letting an Edinburgh housing association flat to somebody? Well... that has to be the lowest of all cunts. Right?

Wrong. I claim no benefits in France, I pay taxes in France, I even have two bank accounts in France. I don't have a house in Edinburgh anymore which incidentally, wasn't a housing association house. I live on the Mediterannean coast in the South of France, although we do return to Edinburgh 2 or 3 times a year.

I realise that jealousy can be a terrible affliction for some people, but in all honestly, you should let me know how your life is in grimy britain. I promise not to be be too smug.

And there was me wondering why there wasn't a new thread called 'Why does everyone hate the Scots' You'd be the perfect person to start it. You could even get you fat pal Nibbler to join in and help you with any big words you might need to use.

Fact is though, nobody hates the Scots, simply because we're fucking great at everything we do.

Barding, you're as much of an idiot as your fat foolish friend who bought (and proudly displayed on here), the most ridiculous T-Shirt that anyone has ever seen in their puff. If it's not ridiculous, then let's see a pic of him actually wearing it!!

Pair of twats.

... the most ridiculous T-Shirt that anyone has ever seen in their puff...

Who are you calling a puff? Fucking git.

And it's not a t-shirt, it's a Hawaiian shirt. Are you blind? (Blind drunk probably.)

It's a work of art, an iconic classic and a valuable collector's item. If you hadn't spent the last twenty-odd years stuck inside a bottle of booze or a bottle of pills you'd have half a clue about such things.

Take a look at this ebay auction that ended last week. Someone bid £51 for it. I got it for half that. As I said at the time....bargain!

I can imagine the first thing that entered your head, probably an email something like this: "Hi PK. It's your best mate Nibbler here. Can you please ban Mist from BWW 'cos he just questioned my taste and slagged off my T-Shirt?"

Grow up, fool.
