I actually have been enjoying the bonus material most of all. 'Conversation Piece' is addicting. I love the interview prior to 'Let Me Sleep Beside You (BBC Radio Session D.L.T. Show)'. Bowie saying his mom thought it was dirty is funny.
'You start out wrinkled and you cry...you end up wrinkled and you die.'
The conversation bit I think was on early copies of Bowie at the Beeb. I think that the version of Unwashed is much better than the Beeb's version. I think this a one of the best bonus discs around, especially as some of this stuff has never seen the light of day on boots etc.. I'm surprised that thr 1979 version of Space Oddity wasn't included though.

It'll prolly wind up on the 'Scary Monsters' deluxe addition, like it did before.. Although I can see what you're saying: kind of like how with the Ryko/EMI remasters, when a song like "Holy Holy(1972)" would wind up on 'The Man Who Sold The World' as a bonus track, and that album was from '70/'71.. I'm really looking forward to hearing the 1976 live stuff once the 'Station To Station' reish comes out.
Did later copies of the Beeb set drop the interview? I wasn't aware of that, how queer.
I don't think there should have been a place on the bonus disc for the '79 version of SO. It would have been jarringly out of place imo. I think if there are any more of these anniversary editions they should stick to tracks that were recorded around the same time.
This release was a true winner though. Extremely enjoyable and thankfully bereft of any of those extraneous single edits/remixes.

>>>I bought the 3 disc edition. Don't know if that has anything to do with it. What does yours clock in at?<<
<br>
Yeah! I have the 3 CD version and it clocks in at 3:16, now this is where the mystery begins...go to the track above that (4)"Silly Boy Blue" play that and at the end the CD counter will start to count backwards and there is that very same piece of speech as on Space Oddity 40th.
Try it now Nick, If you can?
It must be on your disc.

In the future when all's well
I'm struck by the beauty of the young Bowie's voice, particularly on the demos. I'd forgotten how sweet his voice could be. And powerful. The demo of Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud is given the full Bowie performance (which we all know is a beautiful thing to behold).
I'm also struck by how 'posh' he sounded back then. Bromley Dave had become BBC David by then. WTF is he talking to on the "DLT Show" tracks, because surely that's not Dave Lee Travis? Is it Brian Matthew?
Some of the phrasing reminded me of the first album stuff and made me feel quite nostalgic for these two albums:
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the 1967 album (or Images) was also to get the reissue treatment, perhaps augmented by Toy?
Oh cheers for the heads up. Googling Bowie Zone here. It's not as I remembered it. Has it been moved or summat? A promo copy would be well nice!
Edit: I see the thread now!
