Inspiration for the song title "Heroes"!

One of the books on Bowie claimed - at least half convincingly - that the song Heroes was partly a paean to The Velvet Underground's 'Heroin', on the basis that Heroes uses the same two chords used in 'Heroin' and the closeness of the song title.

Possibly so.

However while 'Neu!' have been mentioned as an influence on Bowie, on the Krautrock programme on BBC3 (or BBC4) last night, the Neu! guitarist mentioned how Bowie said how much he loved the first and third track from 'Neu! 75' and the first one was 'Hero', and the guy said I wondered where Bowie got the song title 'Heroes' from (or word to that effect!).

So there you go.

Also Iggy was featured, waxing lyrical about the beauty of Neu!'s music, and also talking excited about Kraftwerk's 'Radioactivity', and mentioning how one of the Kraftwerk leaders once took him to the market for asparagus shopping happy.gif

Reluctant as I am to respond to one of your pointless posts, this is hardly news.

Hardly at all.

I can't be the only one thinking...

October 25 2009, 11:25 PM

will you just f*** off??

It wouldn't be the first time somebody's said something on here that someone has read about or discovered before, and it might not be the first time somebody has read something "new" that they'd missed before either.

I've read that Bowie said it was based on 'Waiting For My Man', but never 'Heroin'.

Mist.

Yes

Waiting for The Man rhythmically certainly, but one of the books alleged the Heroin connection too, and the connection is there. Most songs are culmination of many influences anyway.

It must be the tinea

This place has been so pleasant and peaceful without your malevolent presence.

Now you're back 2 seconds and somebody has the temerity to point out that your breathless "news" isn't news at all and you're all cursing and having a hissy fit (as usual).

Why don't you go back to your http://www.myspace.com/jeremyscrappysongs site and leave this place to the real Bowie fans (the ones who actually know something about Bowie)?

I must say Neu! 75 is an awesome record , it seemed to preempt quite a lot of stuff that came soon after ,like Ultravox ! and to a slight degree Punk with its simple but effective attitude , and there would be no reason to doubt that Bowie would have been well aware of its credentials , and certainly been astute enough to incorporate a little of its spirit into his own work ! M.Rother has been involved in some really great music !
