Ha ha picked it up my self a while back , can it be classed as a guilty pleasure? also picked up Leo Sayers The River Sessions , boy can he sing [live] going back to David Essex , it has to be said that I tend to think that most of the teeny bop guys that little girls went crazy over Osmonds ,Take That ,the list is endless , most are pug ugly ! but I have to say that of all this type of act the two Davids ,Cassidy and Essex were the exception !
Like 'On & On' from him. I think The Longpigs, whose biggest hit was in fact the same very title, nicked the wah wah guitar effect for their song 'Miss Believer' off the criminally underrated and overlooked Mobile Home album. Also enjoy 'Gonna make you a star' and 'For Emily'. Some of his work is utter shite, mind, but he's got a few in his arsenal.
For giving Adam Faith's dog LSD in Stardust - I was a distraught 10 year old! Luckily tho', there was many a Bowie pic on the back of the Essex ones in the early 70s - all easily turned around.
Oh What A Circus is indeed on this collection BillB.
Always had a soft spot for Myfanwy too. Rock On is quite cool.
Just spotted it today and thought, "fook it". Had a bath and banged it on
Great pop. No more no less.
ANd yes, Leo Sayer has a fine hits collection out too.
I love the freedom music gives ya, to experience difficult but rewarding works, but also some light relief to be had from a simple tune !!
"I`ve A Dream, Silver Dream Machine" Thanx David
My fave Essex track has allways been Rock On or Make You A Star,i vaguely remember watching Stardust on BBC years back, was he the guy in charge of the Bumpers?
