"We've been busy with Mick's birthday celebration, so far we have a venue (The Springhead, Hull) a PA and a date, the 22nd May 2010. I've also spoken to Keith Ched about having the Rats re-form for a one off gig. John Cambridge said he would if Keith agreed, and after explaining what we are doing and why, Keith has now agreed to play. So we just need to get in touch with Benny Marshall who, it turns out, lives in the same county as me here in Ireland.
I've also organised a band made up of folk from the MickRonson.com and IanHunter.com forums, who will play Ronno associated tunes. I'd also like to have a couple of local young bands play - supporting Hull's music scene - something I'm sure Mick would agree with. All money raised will go towards a fund to get a statue erected in Hull."
Another update:
One minor amendment though, It's myself who's putting this together but for the record, Moi has been a great asset to the project.
Suzi supports the event 100% - and has posted an update (and will continue to, for those following the build up) on http://www.mickronsons.com
We're hoping to persuade one or two guests to come along and perform for us, it's still early doors yet and we'll add details later if and when we have confirmations,
Confirmed so far I have John Cambridge and Ched from the Rats (I'm still speaking to Benny Marshall hoping he can make it along - he lives out of the country so it may prove difficult for a full Rats reunion - but I've not given up just yet) The Paddingtons have confirmed, and I've persuaded a number musicians from the mickronson/ianhunter forums to put a band together for the night - again with one or two guests appearing with them, their are two other bands with a connection that I'm going to speak to.
All proceeds will be going into a fund to erect a statue to Mick in his home town, due to the interest I've had it will be a ticket affair, details to follow...
The drummer from The Paddingtons played 'Five Years' for about 30 minutes during a soundcheck. I like to think the rest of them have some interest in Ronson too. I doubt it though.
I'm very pleased to announce that John 'Hutch' Hutchinson www.myspace.com/johnhutchhutchinson has agreed to play at the 'Birthday Bash' Hutch will be joining Keith 'Ched' Cheesman (guitar) and John Cambridge (drums) for what is becoming a potted history of Ronno's bands, The Rats, The Hype and The Spiders from Mars, I'm hoping that Trevor Bolder may join in, but I know that he's touring at the moment and commitments may prevent, to round off the Spiders link, Will Palin will be coming along to help stage-manage the day.
I'm also really pleased to say that we also have the wonderful Tracie Hunter Band, www.myspace.com/traciehunterband playing for on the 22nd, I also have a brilliant guitarist from Melbourne named 'JJ' making the trip, take a look at this tribute to Ronno that JJ has written whilst it has been produced with the help of another Ziggy connection, Robin Mayhehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dAiwiiNi2o
All proceeds from this event will be going towards the Mick Ronson statue fund.
....more acts to be announced shortly

We have had to re-schedule this event due to logistics - it's now taking place on June 5th and 6th, (I'd love to have said the change is to coincide with the 'Ziggy' album anniversary - hey we still can.)
Same venues, Saturday: The Springhead, Sunday: The Welly, full line up to be announced soon.
