Just a bit of fun.
This one is pretty bad
Aladdin Sane background lightning flashes, dodgy Serious Moonlight attire they can't be serious?
Do people really pay to go and see this kind of thing?? this rubbish only reinforces to me just how special the real McCoy actually was, the lead singer trying to be db looks a right tit. Don't tell me! its probably that David Brighton fella
How about this one LOL!
A montage of Bowie idiocy, I will leave you to spot the obvious flaws in this blokes act. Bootleg Bowie! I'd certainly give him the boot
Your turn!

Confession time!! Me and two mates went and saw ultimate bowie (1st vid) a couple of years ago yes 'David' was bad but the band were 'all together' esp the left handed lead guitarist duing the Moonage daydream solo. Three diamond dogs in the front row trying to come on to my mate was hilarious as well

I'm actually going to see the first band (top video) next month, tried to see them last month but could'nt get in as it was sold out.Next months gig is in a bigger venue.
Anyway my mate, who managed to get in said they were brilliant, especially the left handed guitarist.
Ok the "Bowie" is rubbish but they do put on a good show.
The other tributes i have seen are Absolute Bowie (good but very tongue in cheek)and Jean Genie who i thought were excellent, the singer (John Mainwaring?) has Bowie off to a tee without the exaggerated mannerisms, dance moves and "poses".
Cheers,
Jack

I have to admit some of the actual musicians in the 1st vid aren't too bad which begs the question what are they doing associating themselves with this rubbish? I know its a way of making a living etc but if I had a talent to play a musical instrument of some kind I'd like to think I'd put it to more productive and original use, then again thats just me I suppose.
As for Bowie tribute acts I really, really, can't see the attraction of them?? God knows I've tried I really have. I know I should look at them for what they are, ie a bit of fun or a way of us all reliving Bowie once again now the original appears to have hung up his mike but I just find them so annoying on one hand and so hilarious on the other.
If I actually went to see one of these charlatan acts, honestly! I would have to shout out your fucking rubbish! and your nowt! like David Bowie or words to that effect which would most likely result in me getting ejected from the venue, I'd even be sorely tempted to throw raw eggs at them
Maybe I'm a Bowie snob LOL! I don't think I am though, I just see me as recognising that you just can not replicate something as original, dynamic, exciting, or awe inspiring as the original David Bowie. These people are on a losing wicked don't they realise this simple fact. I really don't understand why some of you have said you have seen or are going to see acts like these???? I mean come on! how can you not feel short changed in some way, its like buying those old Top of The pops albums from the 70's where they didn't have the original artists singing but sound alike session singers, what is the bloody point?
I remember someone telling me a long time ago now that they were on holiday once in Spain or somewhere like that, and at their hotel one night there was a black! Bowie impersonator. ROFL! Now I'm not racist and neither am I colour blind but could someone tell me how something like that works? buy all accounts this particular black guy was deadly serious! yeah right whatever. ROFL!
As for this David Brighton guy I bet he thinks he is actually David Bowie in real life, honestly I bet secretly he thinks he is. How old is he btw? Hey! I was guilty of it back in the day as most of us probably were, but I / we was / were young back then Bowie was at his peak and it was all part of the then game of being a David Bowie fan, so whats this guys excuse today?
Nah I just don't get it come the revolution I'm going to have them all put up against a wall and shot! and maybe also those who go and support them ) they / you are all guilty of the charge of bringing Bowie-ism into disrepute, and to think some people have paid a lot of money for a Bowie Toy CD where that David Brighton's mug has found its way on to the front cover, the frigging impostor!!
Someone should produce a DVD of all the dodgy Bowie impersonator's available on you tube and elsewhere, I guarantee it would sell on the grounds it would make you laugh and seethe in equal measure depending on you particular mood at the time of viewing especially if its watched after a few pints down the pub. I wouldn't give the screen of my TV set much chance of surviving through
Edit... What planet is this doughnut/ plank/ freak/ odd bod on? come the revolution this guy is the first against the wall to get the bullet. He says he works in build a bear workshop, well here a suggestion mate, GO AND GET STUFFED!

I think that tribute bands, offer so many areas to be analitical and critical, I see any I can (Bowie ones that is).
I have always loved imitation/emulation , in all things. While so many try to sound alike (this in itself is quite frightening, but enlightening, as it is an indicator as to how others see Bowie. Honestly, If I thought Bowie was anything like the way some see him, I would have never entertained him), few make a "real" effort to do him or his wardrobe justice. It is this in which I find myself most critical.
A few years ago I spent several months recreating some of his costumes and hairstyles through wigs. I made a ziggy wig, A Halloween Jack wig, a serious moonlight wig and a couple of toupes 1990 and 2004. I made a very close copy (In my opinion of course) of Davids reality jacket. I recreated Davids '74 stage attire, the cracked actor cloak (again in my own, albeit highly subjective opinion) some very nice tight black trousers with sequins and these shoes. They lack elevation by about 7mm but otherwise I was rather proud of them.
I went to see a tribute band a few weeks ago, and I honestly don't understand how it is that they make great claims aabout accuracy but fail to deliver in so many ways.
Oh boy! I miss being such an arsehole.
Maybe I still am?

years ago, I remember reading an article about a Bowie tribute act that didn't play any of the songs as "straight covers"
like they'd reinterpret the songs in other styles - TMWSTW as a reggae track, or Modern Love as a punk song, and so forth... for example (or something to that effect)
and they got really good reviews apparently... but for the life of me, I can't remember the name of that band
It seemed "interesting" but I didn't see them live
it's also funny how even the most random bands get tribute acts - like a while ago- someone showed me a youtube clip of tribute act version of The Prodigy... which was just HILARIOUS!!!

I just think that it is great to hear Davids music being played live. I do Find however, that should a band make certain claims about authentic costumes or whatever, I feel that they should deliver it.
I am really waiting in eager anticipation of the Bowie tribute band called RONSEAL.
......Maybe RONNO-SEAL?

Interesting to read your replies SWEETHEAD & birotheleggy ( love the shoes btw SWEETHEAD )
I think its the accuracy thing that annoys me as well because I find that with the best will in the world its impossible to replicate someone as unique as David Bowie no matter how hard we try which leads me to conclude why bother because the fake imitators just end up being annoying.
I guess we are all guilty of it at sometime or other though, I'm thinking back to when I was younger and like everyone else back then in the 70s we all dressed up and acted like him. Looking back now I'm older my Bowie looks probably weren't that authentic even though at the time I though I looked a million dollars as a Bowie clone. In my / our defense we had youth on our side as an excuse.
To put the whole thing in perspective, when I went to see Bowie on his Earthling tour at Newcastle Upon Tyne there was this guy in the line outside who must have been about 35ish + all dressed up as a Thin White Duke era Bowie, he was acting like he was Bowie and he was obviously in that hey! everyone is looking at me they think I'm David Bowie zone. He looked OK I suppose but he was far from accurate, in the end I just thought he was acting like, and looked like a bit of a knob
It's the same with these tribute bands, I do admire them in one way for trying but ultimately to me they end up looking like and sounding like complete dicks Bowie imitating is OK when we were 12 to 16 but beyond that age I really do think people should leave the whole thing alone and just enjoy the real thing on CD and DVD etc.
