how about this one, the biggest seller of his career.
interesting to see if there will be more votes for the singles rather than the more obscure album cuts, or indeed if shake it gets a single nod.
ok my vote goes to ricochet.

ant i do also really like criminal world but after ricochet.
i even quite like shake it & would like to see the 12" remix on cd one day.
only track i'm not keen on is without you, i would say its probably quite high on my list of least favourite bowie tracks.

it was my favourite track when the album first came out, but again these days the singles seem to be less favourable than album tracks for me.
i do much prefer the longer album version than the single version, same goes for china girl and lets dance.

ricochet. the whole album is music for the masses and to that end he did a pretty good job. wonder how many people listened to lets dance and decided to look further.

this is it for me...just like born this way by lady ga ga being the biggest cd for my 17 year old neice...lets dance was the biggest for me...and the leadup to it was so exciting...magazines, radio spots, tv spots, the tour,
i consider lets dance the song to be such a creative and original pop hit...not overplayed....can be played in most formats or party situations, long version and short version, .....................if someone were to say to me to define myself by a #1 hit single i would say lets dance....
lets dance
modern love
china girl
shake it
putting out the fire
richochet
criminal world
without you

i have two promotional wall posters from the lets dance album....one is the album coming out...the other is the lets dance 12" release ahead of the album...my friend worked in a record store...he snagged them for me....i still have them....
anyone have anything from the wall of the record shops at all?....i bet its real cool right.....
when ...hours came out i saw the hugest banner on a whole wall in the virgen records for the album....it was the biggest i ever saw for any record....

dig i used to have one of them blue wall banners for the tonight album advertising blue jean as well, long gone now tho.
large wall poster for never let me down and one for tin machines you belong in rock and roll that was a massive poster.
i still have somewhere a counter stand for the real cool world single.

I've still got some of those posters somewhere. There was a Hammersmith picture in the Modern Love 12" single I remember. Also a fold out poster for 'Tonight' and 'Loving the alien'.

For "China Girl." Sure, Iggy recorded it first, but David's version is spooked and (I would argue) definitive. Just the space he leaves at the start of the bridge, his decision to leave four bars empty with just the keyboards carrying the mood, leaves goosebumps.

I am so schizo that I did'nt know my other vote
and I ( or was it me ) voted for the same song twice !
" I'll give you eyes of blue "
I often think, How did Bowie foresee the future in so many of his songs.
Many Japanese girls wear blue and other coloured contacts !!!!
Maybe a good thread topic for later ???

2ND : LETS DANCE & CAT PEOPLE TIED 2ND PLACE { 6 VOTES EACH }
3RD : MODERN LOVE - { 5 VOTES }
4TH : OTHERS { 11 VOTES IN TOTAL }
TOTAL VOTES CAST FOR LETS DANCE ALBUM = 38
NOW THIS WAS A VERY INTERESTING ONE, MAYBE THE MOST SO FAR ALTHOUGH I VOTED FOR RICOCHET MYSELF I DI'NT EXPECT IT TO WIN & CERTAINLY BY SUCH A MARGIN.
IT WILL CERTAINLY BE GREAT TO SEE THIS TRACK ON A COMPILATION RATHER THAN THE USUAL HIT SINGLES WE NORMALLY SEE.
NO SURPRISE LETS DANCE WAS THE RUNNER UP IT WAS SURE IT WOULD BE WELL VOTED FOR BUT I DIDNT EXPECT CAT PEOPLE TO DO AS WELL AS IT.
WHAT WAS FANTASTIC ABOUT THIS ONE WAS THAT EVERY TRACK RECEIVED AT LEAST 2 VOTES EACH WHICH I BELIEVE IS THE FIRST TIME IT'S HAPPENED WITH THE POLLS.
YES EVEN SHAKE IT & WITHOUT YOU RECEIVED 2 VOTES A PIECE, IT DOES SHOW YOU THAT THIS ALBUM AS A COLLECTIVE FORCE IS PRETTY STRONG.
wow how can you not like ricochet it's the dogs nuts.
worthy winner & will look damn cool on the compilation rather than the usual lets dance,china girl/modern love trio, as good as they are.

so i listened to Ricochet (it was a long time ago i didn't). I understand why you like it and my mind has changed but not much - yes, the Bowie spirit is there and this is a good track with very good moments but i don't like it in its entirety.
I listened to Criminal Word, more good than i thought before, but i don't like much pop music - Bowie or not Bowie, except Loving the Alien, a pure beautiful pop song.
