HI, I'm getting information that there were errors made during David Bowie's performance of America during the concert for NY and that they were fixed for the DVD release of this event. Does anybody know more?

Yes, in the original broadcast the footage was of db alone on the stage from the beginning. His instrument didn't play as it should and bless him he sat there and very professionally endured it. However the performance was cleaned up and the first bit redone or remixed and the first bit of video was replaced with the scenes you see now. I understand the desire to clean it up for release, but really db's professionalism and sincerity showed through on the original live broadcast. Remarkable on many levels.

Yes, That's true. I've read that his keyboard froze up, and then randomly started playing and Bowie had to quickly catch up to the music sounding on the keyboard, making the timing off. I remember watching the concert live, and it began with a close up of Bowie's face, not with filmed footage as it does now.

Yes, but the original performance, the way it was directed was one of the greats of all time. Think of it. The Concert For New York begins as you are looking at the television screen. Silence. Then, a close up of Bowie's face. There is only one face like it. The crowd roars with approval. He is sitting cross legged with a little toy piano. he begins playing. It sounds like a three year old . I have never seen anything like it.

Yeah, the original one, he started the song, then had to stop and re-start which I felt, added to the magic of his performance. Shame it's quite hard to find now. I had it on VHS but I don't think I transferred it to DVD before I got rid of the tape.

I'd have to go through an entire box of DVDs to see if I did actually transfer it but if not, maybe someone else has it. It's better than the official version.
