Blammo posted this in the Bowienet forum, don't worry I'm not that mad I still pay for it, my account still works for some reason!
06.12.2011 NEWS: CHANGES ARE AFOOT AT BOWIENET
"At some point during the coming autumn/fall, BowieNet will be shedding a few leaves to make way for a new DavidBowie.com with a new look and feel to the entire site."
Re the above announcement back in June, it's still happening folx.
Here in the UK Autumn is apparently the same time as in America: It begins 22-23 September, and ends 21-22 December.
Without wanting to give an exact date right now...think somewhere in the middle of those dates. }
Well there's your question answered to people who were asking.

In a perfect world, Doc, I would like it to have a neat, slick and clean asthetic, with an itunes/ipod like way to scroll through all his album covers, when clicking, an album it tells you everything and anything about the album and each tracks etc. As well as a welcome video message from the man himself, announcing a new album to be released immediately over the net.

How much money does Bowie.Net generate from memberships each year?
For me the site peaked in 2000-03 and began a downward spiral that just doesn't stop. The only way to save this site is for Bowie to allow rare songs and live concerts from his vaults to be streamed or available to members in differant formats. Like say, you can DL the songs or buy members only CD's for a reasonable price containing concerts and perhaps even DVD's.
Never gonna happen though.

or they could just change the god awful colors and put a minimum of new content on. most people would pay $40 for a butcher's bone for the dog and maybe a tatty cd of stuff we already have in a cardboard sleeve for a year's membership. it doesn't have to be cutting edge but to still look the same almost a decade on...

yea - there will need to be MASSIVE changes on the site
it will have to be at least as good as U2's
I used to be a member there, but then I wasn't sure if I'd be able to see them on their most recent tour (they make it easy to get tickets ahead of time for members) & the most recent free "rare" cd wasn't that interesting (this year it was just a bunch of duets, but previous ones were actually quite nice)
they have a great discography where you can stream every song, every music video, etc etc ...and I'm pretty sure you can even watch live stuff...
I mean - even Dj Shadow's website had an interactive discography with clips & videos and little anecdotes about the recordings of the tracks
(which Bowienet never had)
and if they redo that 'bowie radio' nonsense - it'll actually have to be in a decent bitrate, have a playlist that actually changes, and most importantly - have actual rare things on it!
it'll be much better if the site basically becomes a "members only shop" - where you can buy exclusive recordings (like bootlegs and possibly even studio outtakes)

Perhaps it's the 2007 revamp they are installing now ! Wow !
perhaps with a real reason why he didn't perform at the highline festival...
perhaps even with a new welcome message !
looking forward to this...
no seriously... I doubt anything will change, or something new will come up.
apart from the new batch of reissues starting from 2012 onwards. I'm sure that'll come.
A new site is coming, but it will be a short while before it's here. There will be a new design, new message board system and hopefully a new chat platform (fingers crossed on this one).
Sit tight a little longer, once we have a firm date I'll be sure to let you all know.
When asked about the pink layout and a new album
"No pink, and no music"
I doubt they'll let someone working on the site say if he is working on music but that was a pretty straight up response.
thats all pretty much a waste of time then, looks like just a straightforward tosh up with no new release to support it.
does anyone still go on there whats the point when the news comes here first?
